"Well, if I were on mom's diet, I then would have to go to my local Thrift shop, and buy another scale that weighs 6 lbs less!" :) LOL~Ann

That's a puzzle! My only thought, as it has happened to me, is that maybe your calories are a bit too low? I've heard that the body will hold onto every pound if you don't get enough calories. I stay under 1200, and my weight loss is very slow too. :( Good for you staying away from the cookies! That's my weakness, lol.

Remember if you have been adding exercise your muscles take a bit of time to recover and they will retain fluids to aid in that recovery.

sometimes if we eat too few calories, our body goes into conservation mode, and holds onto the calories. You may need to up the calories...eating good calories, and keep moving, you will get there. I am stuck just a little over 10 lbs from my goal weight, so I need to change things up a bit, but my clothes keep getting looser, even if the scale isn't budging :)

Thanks all for the encouragement :)! As Some of you know already that I can't exercise very much, because of my Planters and Tarsal foot problems! It is my faith in Him above that keeps me from succumbing to a great binge, and a hug pig out! LOL

Agreeing with Momsescape. You might need to up the calories. Your body probably needs more than that just lying around. Slowly increase though.

There is conflicting info out there re: that starvation mode theory. I personally decided to pay no mind to it. I'm actually under that 1200 arbitrary figure most days. It's been higher the past week or so due to my disaster kitchen due to my re-do and food brought in at work. My calories for a month routinely average between 1000 and 1100. Have lost 60# and healthy.

I had to submit the prior one as @ work or lose it. Wanted to add, I really think it's what works for you.

As a man, I committed to eating under 1200 calories per day. Two days ago I bought two packages of Oreo cookies, and I ate one package each day. The first day I gained a pound. The second day. I lost a pound. Could the Oreo diet work? How our bodies metabolize the food we eat is a big issue that few discuss. Some people's metabolisms are highly efficient (perhaps your Mom). Others of us take a while for the fat calories to get metabolized as energy that gets burned. I'm not an expert, so I might be talking out of my hat. But dieting and exercise is not the whole story, and someone ought to tell us that.

Low calories is not always the answer. Quality of what you best is most important. Looking at your food dairy for today indicates a need to increase your protein perhaps. Add 200 calories of high quality protein and your metabolism might move. It is possible to eat too little and then your body seems yo just hold on to everything.

LOL--I have tried to stay below the 1000 calories and succeeded. I still gain that 1/2 pounds. I've gone over the 1000, but still under 1200 and lost. I think it's water weight, the scale or maybe I am gaining muscle while losing inches. Looking back the last sentence--yeah, makes sense, but I hate it when it happens to me. The weight is coming off, but SLOW. A turtle can cross the country (yes country, not county) before I will lose another ten pounds--LOL. I am thinking positive--maybe I'll lose five--- :) Seriously, just keep trying. It's better than gaining it all back. The scale will finally move!

I think a little diversity helps too - but diversity within healthy foods mostly. I seem to have a problem getting enough protein, so instead of a garden salad I'll occasionally have a Cobb salad with meat and a hard-boiled egg (and fat-free dressing, of course). But stick to it. We all hit those plateaus or bounce back and forth between a couple of pounds now and then.

looking at your food diary. Add some fresh veggies. Get rid of the processed and cook it yourself. Processed often has additives that hinder weight loss. Look at the sodium difference in you asparagus entries between the fresh and the processed. Kick it up with fresh no-processed foods. I think you will see a huge difference.

Yeah, that's something I'd like to do - cook again. It's difficult when I'm working a high stress job 60 hours a week and on call 24/7. The tendency is to just grab something portable and fruit usually works well. I'm starting with what I can do without much effort, so at least I'm not eating fried foods any more.

If you drop too low on calories it actually slows your metabolism. Your body thinks you are starving. Crazy but true.

Looked at your weight history, Ann444, and you've done an amazing job. I can see why you're frustrated since it leveled off for so long. Hold the course and it will start in the right directions again.

I've also heard that the body can remember a weight it was at once before and get stuck there. Not so sure I believe that though. It sure doesn't seem to get stuck when it starts heading up - sometimes that feels like it happens much too quickly.
