makparis's Journal, 18 September 2009

I'm frustrated and concerned. I spent most of my week very happy and proud of myself (maybe too prideful) of the fact that I've been exercising all week and watching my calories. Although I was weighing in all week and I saw the numbers go up, I kept hoping that it would turn around. Here I am with a huge gain that leaves me emotionally drained from the irritation and frustration.

My family is trying to keep me comforted but all I want to do is cry. If eating right and exercise isn't going to work what do I do? Do I have to drop my calorie count to 1000? Do I have to spend my entire life in the gym to see any progress?

I sound so pathetic. I apologize for my whiny statements. I'm just not sure what to do now. I don't know what caused the gain and I'm not sure how to change my situation. I do know that exercise and healthy eating are the key, I guess I just haven't figured out what kind of exercise or what right foods to eat. I'll keep experimenting.

DON'T GIVE UP! Sounds like you've been reading MY journal. I've been whining and moaning all morning about basically the same thing! I think I'm doing the right things....but getting the wrong result. It could be many factors - as Fatsecret Friends informed me - hormones, food sensitivities, water weight. I'm looking at everything. Maybe it just takes longer for our systems to HEAL and begin functioning property again after all the abuse we've inflicted on ourselves for a long, long time. One thing that caught my eye on your diet calendar is the FAT GRAMS may be too high, which work against all your other GREAT EFFORTS. You might consider that. Anyway, for encouragement, check out some members - like Judibird and Moose - who've lost a huge amount of weight this year. WE CAN DO IT AS WELL. LET'S HANG IN THERE AND FIX WHAT AIN'T WORKING.

I know it is frustrating, sometimes changing up your diet does help, reduce calories but increase carb intake. Carbs and sugars really help your muscles develop and lose the inches. Make sure you are recording your measurments as well. Even though there is no wieght loss there may be inch loss which just as important, and you may be gaining muscle at the same time as burning fat, and muscle mass wieghs more, thats why measurements are important as well. Hope this helps! keep your chin up chicky. We can do it!!

Don't give up!Maybe its all water! You are doing great!! Remember the scale sometimes lies to us, depress us..go more by the way your clothes fit. I have one person tell me I look a lil thinner in 3 months, and boy does that bum me out..but I know I am losing becuz of my clothes and the way they fit. Please know we all have times we want to give up and cry..I know I have them.and I've question why when I am doing everything right am I not losing but gaining..maybe its muscle? don't know..but I do know that WE are on the right track, WE will see a thinner NEW YEAR! even if its 15lbs. a loss is a loss..so Please keep your head up..YOU ARE STRONG AND YOU CAN DO IT!!

When you begin a new exercise plan, your muscles may get sore and retain water to help them heal. This can show up as a gain on the scale. It is temporary. Don't stop exercising. It is very important. You will lose inches/fat much faster than those who don't exercise. You will fit into smaller clothes faster, and get a healthy heart. Make sure you are eating enough for your weight and activity level. Going too low can slow your metabolism. Also, remember that things you do this week may not show up for a couple of weeks on the scale. Focus on eating clean and healthy. Sometimes "what" we eat is just as important as "how much" we are eating. Watch processed food consumption, many people retain water from too much sodium (processed foods are loaded with salt). You may also notice your clothes getting more loose before you see the scale drop. Each person is different. Patience and persistence is what will get you to your goal. It's not a race, but a journey and it takes time. Keep trying different things until you find what works for you. Good luck!

Also, although bowling is great, it's not a big cardio workout. Cardio is great for burning calories and helping with weight loss. Maybe add in some walks a few times a week. Good luck!

Thank you all for your support. This morning I was feeling sorry for myself. Thankfully as the day went on, I was able to come out of my funk and enjoy it. Have a lovely day!!

Great advice from everyone ... hang in there ... be honest about your portion size and count EVERYTHING you eat for now. Sometimes we can inadvertently sneak in extra calories and then can't figure out what is wrong. It will come together ... you will see a decline!!!
