Well, I learned my lesson the hard way. My weight loss has been sluggish at best for the last two months. Read some theories of allowing a carb cheat day to re-jump start the fat burning. So, weekend before last I was at a girlfriends birthday and I allowed myself a piece of cake. (3/4 of a piece to be more exact.) The next morning my weight shot up by three pounds ! It took me the next 8 days to get my weight back to where it had been ! NEVER AGAIN !
170.8 lb Lost so far: 46.2 lb.    Still to go: 30.8 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

Yes, but it wasn't fat. It was just your body retaining some water from the carbs. Protein pushes water out of our cells and carbs take them in. So when you get to goal, you will have to find a balance of how many carbs you can eat and maintain your weight.

Were you sitting around talking at your girlfriend's birthday? I find if I sit down a lot with my family or friends my weight will be up the next day, even if I don't eat anything sweet and keep my carbs under control.
