Battling the blues since yesterday afternoon....a lifetime problem, just getting a bit worse with age. Tried the walk, tried the music, tried being social, going to try a swim. At least the water will mask the random tears that insist on running down my face. Oh well, this too shall pass, just sucks at the moment. Managing not to give into the urge to eat junk or binge, but just barely. Doesn't help that despite staying near my RDI and increasing my exercise the scale is going up. Trying to find a local doctor so I can investigate this thyroid thing and the foot pain thing, and the back pain thing. The blues thing I am kinda over trying to do something about, I think it's just my life. Maybe if I change other things, it will get better on it's own. Wish I could enjoy the lovely weather more. Hope everyone is having a successful day!

You are being very strong! I would look at possible food intolerances. They can lead to weight loss resistance, no matter how much you are sticking to your plan, if you are eating foods that are causing an immune response, and associated inflammation, it is unlikely you will be able to lose much weight, and you can have many of the same symptoms you mentioned. I speak from experience. I found that J.J. Virgin's diet was the plan that helped me go through and eliminate the key trigger foods, and go through the process of retesting them to see what is safe and what is not. Not so lucky for me, but I came up positive on each one. But, the good news is I feel so much better than I did before. That makes it all manageable. Definitely get the thyroid checked, but that too is often an autoimmune response triggered by food intolerances. BTW, I was able to get J.J.'s book from the library. If what you are doing now isn't working, what do you have to lose to try something else for a few weeks, right? Good luck!

Thank you for the support MomijjaLou. Good suggestion yduj57, I will see if I can find information in J.J. Virgin's book at the library. I'm willing to take a look at anything that might help.

Try to cheer up, just you being involved in fatsecret is a start- you can look at my food log and see how my calories fluctuate - just keeping track of what you eat is a start and the rest will fall into place- buddy my cat is my pride and joy - he is a handful but he always cheers me up - snezica and drag list are my diet heros- they are ordinary people that have successfully shown this can be done-/ On medical issues do internet research and find a doc - if you having back issues do 15min- 30 min intervals of walking based on health condition- if you have access to physical therapy that may help- get all free medical info you can off internet on your conditions before seeing doc to put you ahead of game

Maybe putting insoles in your shoes might help? Do you have flat feet? I do and I suffered until I had some arches made for myself.

Thanks for the support everyone. You guys are fabulous. Biked to the pool and got 38 minute workout done. Pain in my feet is weird, I've had plantar fasciitis before and it hurt from the heel to arch and they burned and were stiff in the morning. Orthotics helped. This pain is from the baby toe and up the sides and top of my foot and it will hurt with a sharp shooting pain if I step wrong. Tried my orthotics, and different shoes, rest and no rest...it's a mystery to me. Google says it is sciatica, which makes sense given the pain in my lower back and hips. So far my doctor has nothing to suggest but ibuprofen.

Have you had adjustments done by a chiropractor? Improper alignment affects all parts of the body. Even the feet.

Oh yes, I had a wonderful chiropractor where I last lived. He had me nearly pain-free after a year and a half. I am (gratefully) on disability now and it isn't covered.

I am also disabled and massage isn't covered but it is the one thing that keeps me off the major painkillers. It is worth every penny.

Just a note on the blues - Pain will increase depression - depression can increase pain. It is hard to treat both but look into acceptance and commitment therapy - or ACT. There are multiple books and websites dedicated to it and I don't want to recommend one over the other but it is a simple way of thinking that might help.

Thanks cat4life! I have a workbook, maybe I should look at it (she admits, sheepishly) ;-)

Lots of positive comments here. Thinking of you and wishing you well. :)

I continually remind myself to look at it. My answer was to put it on the dining table and work on it when I have a few minutes. That works as long as I don't pile too much on the table...

Thanks Deb_N. There are lots of selfless, kind and supportive people here. It gives me hope. Haha, cat4life, yes, I do have a tendency to make those piles too!

I hope you feel better soon Chris. 80% of our weight loss depends on what we eat and 20% on the exercise. Fat secret RDI is too generous to begin with and with you going over it even just a bit is hindering your weight loss. Always choose the healthier options and then you can have a treat everyday, no problems. That's what I do.

I suffer from the 'blues'. Starting to realise that what I eat affects my mood and that I can turn things around. Eat for a healthy mind? Be strong x

At least you are aware and trying to change the things you don't like. That should be an inspiration all it's own

Web md is a good website and ask wiki - ref medical issues- my co workers joke with me sometimes and call Mr Dr google- but it does help me eliminate going to the primary doctor a lot and I can just go right to the specialist when something weird comes up- example I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist, had no idea what it was at the time - looked up on wiki , found out what it was and just went to ortho doc and avoided primary doc and therefore had 1 doc appointment instead of two

Snezica is correct on 80% diet and 20% excercise, I have been told that alot, there is this guy who works in my office and he has spent $5000 on various diet programs over the years and he has told me this before
