HealthyBabs's Journal, 25 March 2011

Down a pound this morning, new plan set into action yesterday and showing results already.
Busy day of work ahead and then lot's of running around this weekend, Costco run for proteins & veg. Laundry, grocery shop and a mani/pedi at some point.
It is still so cold this morning, only 25*. Snow has all melted except for a few small dirty piles that are the remains of the 25' high piles of a few weeks ago. Maybe we'll get out and start to rake the yard if it is not too wet. Just noticed we have a mole infestation in the front yard. Gotta figure out how to get rid of those little critters. Any suggestions besides getting a cat? We are both highly allergic and a cat won't last long out here in the woods. Too many coyotes and other wildlife.

Have a happy day everyone!

Morning Babs, yahoo on another one biting the dust. Can't help you on the mole thing as we have them as well. An out side cat is good. We had one and never saw any moles until she was gone. Have a good day......Bren

You can buy special mole traps (bought mine at Lowes). I have 2 cats and they do not like Moles so don't bother with that approach.

I think the 100g will make a big difference! I started low-carbing right around that level & it was very comfortable. Enough room to have your favorites in moderation. No suggestions molewise. ;)

Hi Babs. Scotts Grub-Ex will work on moles. How, you ask? You get rid of the grubs, you deplete the moles food source. Eventually they will go to a neighbors yard ;). I don't know if it will work if they have already come, but it is a decent repellant. I raked the sand and salt a couple weeks ago, now I have to lay Step 1 down. Have a nice weekend, Babs.

I hope that is now the end of your winter Babs and Spring will start for you soon :) I remember we had a mole under our lawn when I was a child, nearly drove my Dad to the nut house, unfortunately although I remember him nearly going insane, I don't remember how he got rid of it - sorry......

@CMR- My dad recommended the Scotts Grub-Ex too, but he said only use it in July because that is when they are "at work". Too late now but he said we can get some mole kill to put in the holes and see if that works. Yup, time to get down the Step 1! I have 400 ft of frontage so lot's of raking to get to.

@Kat- I know this will really help. I lost 17 on Atkins before I joined FS but not looking to be quite that restrictive in the variety this time so 100g is my max/day in whatever foods that happens to be. It gives me plenty of food to keep hunger from setting in and still be able to have my favorite things is severe moderation. I am still trying to figure out why I was so thick and waited so long to implement again.

Babs, I bought an electronic battery operated mole deterrent that is spike shaped and driven into the ground. It gives of a subsonic signal, is ground level so you just mow over it, and it works awesome. Put one in my flower garden to get rid of a terrible infestation, and within a matter of hours they were gone, never to reappear in that area again. I just put 3 new d cells in every spring. Congrats on the weight loss....I am experimenting also....am looking forward to seeing the results.

Moth balls work for moles. My mom got an infestation and they were so bad my step dad was ready to pour gasoline down the holes and light them on fire (and he is an animal lover of all types), and she read about moth balls and it seemed to work,

After yesterday's tree planting I can say that raking, and shoveling is the best exercise I've had in a very long time..Best wishes chasing the moles and weight away. TOWANDA!!!!
