Doctor visit today, and it did not go well. At all. My blood sugar levels haven't budged in the past month. They've been staying around 200-217. The doctor adjusted my metformin and glipizide, and said if they are still the same in another month, I have to go to insulin. I do NOT want that. Especially since I have no insurance. :(

I've decided my Dr. Pepper addiction is not worth it. I know I won't be able to quit cold turkey, but I will damn sure try. I'm going to trade the pops for water, unsweetened teas, the occasional crystal lite mix in, and even more water. I can beat this. I can't not beat this, but it's going to be so hard. I've gone all day today without one, but I'm already shaking. My Dad informed me soda was not addictive, it was all in my head. Um..NO! Sugar loaded caffeinated drinks are very addicting. Some of my friends suggested switching to diet soda, but I can't handle the aspartame, and I'd rather just ditch the sodas all together.

Good part of the visit is I hadn't gained any weight back. In fact, I've lost another pound! I bet when I stop guzzling sodas, I'll see even more loss. I'm also going to look into taking a water aerobics class at the local pool. Something for arthritis sufferers, since I have all that damage in my lower back and right leg. I need something low impact, and easy on the joints.

Kudos for you on giving up the soda...and even more for avoiding the diet soda. I used to have one on hand always, but learned the hard way that the artificial sweeteners in diet sodas actually trick our body into thinking they are sugar...so your body responds anyway by dumping insulin. Congrats on your loss! Keep it up! :) Marnie

Addictions and habits are difficult to break !! I struggle with my desire for wine. Do not give up and I bet that when you stop drinking those Dr. Peppers, you will really start to drop excess pounds. Try a few drops of cherry extract in ice cold water and see if that helps. It will not replace it in flavor, but will add some kick to the water. Good luck, girl! : ]
