doublecheese's Journal, 17 January 2014

Things I did wrong yesterday:
- 350 calories after midnight
- last snack was high carb (Weetabix), after 1.30AM right before going to sleep
- Anxiety (cortisol causes weight gain, right?)
- Not enough sleep (thought there was something with leptin & ghrelin)
- No fruits & veggies
- Wayyy more milk than I usually have (about 250g instead of 30-40g)

Going to the store again today, load up on veggies and fruits, buy sausage for my parents and brother and probably chicken breast for me (can I freeze half of it? My dad says it becomes gross when you freeze it). Or maybe something vegetarian (legumes, no veggie burger, I guess veggie burgers count as overprocessed food :P).

Before going to bed, I usually drink a glass of milk. It's enough to sate my hunger, but it's also not too much ;) It's usually recommended as a pre-sleep food ;)

Sure you can freeze chicken breast. I usually cut it into portions and put them into freeze bags in the freezer. Then, the day before I intend to eat them, I leave them thawing in the fridge (at night) :) I think that, it becoming gross, kind of depends on how you thaw it. If you microwave it, it becomes really gross since microwaving alters the taste of it. If you need to thaw it faster than usual, put it in water (the water is a great temperature conductor) but always in the fridge. You shouldn't thaw meat (and other things that gain bacteria fast) at ambient temperature because, every 10 minutes or so, there is a new generation of bacteria (every 10 minutes or so, their numbers double) and the more bacteria, the more their toxic byproducts you're gonna get on your steaks. Lots of people thaw steaks at ambient temperature and nothing happens though but I think it's not ideal for your digestive system. Whenever you get food poisoning, that's usually the result of too much bacteria. When you thaw in water, the meat will gain volume but that will all disappear once you cook it. But the best way is really to leave it in the fridge the night before I think.

freezing chicken is fine...just make sure you wrap it well so it does not get freezer burn. Forgive yourself, we all have an off day or so..the big picture is what counts.
