Whenever I reach a target goal, I want to go off and reward myself with candy and cookies. I am 57, and still want to be a child. I want to read more about the ill effects of insulin because that is the worst side effect of cookies and candy. I watched a t.v. show that said if you cut your calories by 30%, you will live longer. they mentioned insulin effects, too.So i must focus on what is happening in my body biologically, and maybe it will influence my choices.

I reward myself with soy ice cream--I bought a pint of Purely Decadent Chocolate Fudge Brownie and eat a quarter of it topped with cacao nibs every time I reach a mini-goal. I've heard that about restricted calorie diets too, that they cause longevity. They say that all of the cultures that have long lives are very moderate in their eating habits. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have good genes, but genes are supposedly about 30% of the longevity factor, and environment is 70%. So there is a lot you can do to increase your longevity and quality of life through diet, exercise, avoiding risky behaviors, etc. Also, I've been taking glucomannan, which is a fiber made from konjac root and is supposed to have great insulin effects. Shirataki noodles are made from it (they are used in teriyaki) and I have read that the Japanese eat them for weight control.
