Djburney's Journal, 19 October 2012

Thanks for all of your responses to my motivation journal entry yesterday. Such great insight! I wanted to respond to each of you...

@HCB-I'm with you, I don't know what kick-started this successful mindset this time. I had just been through total knee replacement and was feeling better and had hope again for a normal life. Maybe that was it. Skinny pants are your reward, but I think that by having them in your closet, they also help you form a self-image of a thinner person.

@Jess-One thing I love about being in my 50s is all that stuff about being right for a man instead of finding the right man for me is gone. I really don't give a s**t anymore if they think I'm skinny enough. All the advice to me from a few weeks ago when dumb date told me I was fat was good advice!

@Lindsay, you are right on in so many ways. We need all of those motivators. Self-love is so important. A good book on that is Women, Food, and God. The more I learn about hormones, though, the more I believe that true emotional eating is pretty rare. The constant state of mindfulness is why I study this stuff all the time!

@Neptune, See Lindsay's post about a constant state of mindfulness...fear and reward motivators are constantly changing, and are harder to hold on to. Self-image as a motivator is harder to get to, but ultimately more effective.

@NewMooney, stick with us, we all help each other to make this permanent. Like you, I want to enjoy my senior years with travel, and grandkids and freedom.

@CJT, what can I say, a man in uniform...sigh. And they are mean about that stuff in the military, so don't give it to them!

@FullaBella, stick with us, really, even when it's hard, even when we all reach our goals, we can help each other. Try researching visualization, see if you can start imagining yourself thin at different ages in your life, all the way to 100.

@Erin, Ah my friend, you will be fine. Your natural state is determined by those pesky hormones, and you are working hard to get them to work for you instead of against you. I'm having a little trouble visualizing myself thin too. Maybe try photoshopping a pic? Take some pictures to see how far you have come. Be nice to Erin

So often I see journals with people writing about battling this, winning the war on weight, fighting, charging forward, all very aggressive ways of looking at it, as if the weight was something separate from ourselves. Lets be nice to ourselves, love ourselves for the beautiful loving people we are. Put it in the perspective of children and/or pets...Would you give your baby chocolate milk because they like it better? Let them drink Mountain Dew out of their bottle because it's more fun than watered down apple juice? Would you feed your dog all the things they beg for because you want them to be happy?

Treat yourself at least as well as your dog. Love you guys!

LOL - if I treat myself the way we treat out cats, I would be the Queen of Sheba or something! They get expensive high protein grian free food - hey, wait, I am on the SAME diet as them! High Protein and grain free...hmmm, now if I could just figure out how to get paid to lay around and sleep all day, too.
