debrafrederick's Journal, 10 October 2016

Hi guys! For those of you who were in the path of Matthew, glad you made it out the other side intact! We had 30 mph winds here with gusts up in the 50's no damage to the house or the post office but a family had to be rescued across the street due to a huge pine tree falling on their house, no injuries. We never lost power but a few folks in town had issues with trees on power lines. We did have a few trees down on our fences but no livestock escaped, fences repaired, trees removed. I had a couple of elderly neighbors who required oxygen who relocated to Atlanta to avoid power outages and I tended their pets while they were gone, when their power was restored I called them to give the all clear now everyone is back home and in good health. My daughter lives in Jacksonville and they never lost power and yesterday was her birthday and when I called she was out celebrating at Olive Garden so all is right in her world. I am blessed, we were just on the fringes here 60 miles from the coast.

Good to hear you're recovering quickly. I was shocked to see how far inland the effects were felt!

Glad you're ok! My mom, dad, and sister are in Jacksonville. Luckily they don't live near the beach! They still had damage, but it wasn't too bad.

I just got finished riding herd on a pack of mules who escaped from down the road, they had a compromised fence and were not aware of it till the 5 mules went thundering down the road, amazing what a bucket of feed and a tailgate can accomplish, everyone is back safely behind fences :) For those of you driving on the roads, drive with care......pets are not the only thing to watch for, it's very easy for fences to fail during a storm and stock animals have no fear of automobiles and no real concept of the danger that moving vehicles can bring. They are panicked and confused and can be unpredictable and dangerous when in fight or flight mode. This public service announcement brought to you by Matthew.......

Feel off the wagon for awhile. Back on and going strong. I have to record everything I eat or it all sneaks back on.
