erikahollister's Journal, 19 August 2016

Well, I ended my fat fast tonight. I did a ketogenic fat only fast for 6 days. I lost 6 lbs. Now we'll see how much of that loss sticks around. It was quite doable; the fat keeps you from being hungry. I drank two Bullet Proof coffees -decaf- each day and ate pure butter if I got hungry. It is a very abnormal way of eating, and though some people do it over long periods and continue to lose 1 lb/day, I don't think it appeals to me as an on-going diet. As a way to shove off of a plateau, yes, and for that it seems a good tool in my tool kit, or as a way to jumpstart a diet. I will go back to my usual LCHF diet with IF - intermittent fasting. I have now lost 75 lbs with 50 to go. In the next few day I will be on vacation with my family in Vermont, so while I'll try to eat LCHF, I'm not going to hyper focus on diet. Any way this was a worthy experiment; I'll let you know about the rebound. It way kind of fun to see family members who haven't seen me for awhile. I did get some complements on my weight loss. Have a good evening FS friends!

Interesting concept, but pure butter? No appeal!

I did the same a few years ago & lost 6-7 pounds in 7 days, it works & you're right very doable and never really hungry. I totally forgot about that until I read your journal... thanks for reminding me.Congrats on your weight loss & have fun on your vacation !

I don't hear the LCHF/keto people generally saying that the dietary fat directly causes the weight loss. I see them repeatedly maintaining that the satiety that they get from their diets allows them to reduce their carbs and calories without bingeing and thus to lose weight by burning stored body fat. Maybe it works due to the insulin production/restriction effect, a placebo effect, both, or something else. It really doesn't matter what the mechanism is at that point, if it is working for the individual--especially if this is the only WOE that has been effective for him or her. Doctors are very clear about the fact that even modest weight loss has significant health benefits for overweight people. A diet that may not be ideal in some respects may nevertheless be preferred when it helps people reach an important goal that would otherwise likely not have been achieved by them, as has been established by their prior unsuccessful efforts to lose the weight with other plans. It didn't work for me, but if it works for them, that's fantastic. Erika, congrats on losing almost 75 pounds!!!!!!!!!

Ghostwritor I thought we were to help each other! How are you rantings helping anyone. Certainly won't help Erikahollister. Hope what I'm reading in her post doesn't mean she's leaving fatsecret, because losing 75lbs isn't anything to sneeze at. Erika hope you do as with the last 50lbs. :o )

I'm angry at you; your ranting isn't helping anyone. Obviously you haven't most of my comment which praise member for how well their doing. Ranting is when someone has anything good to say and keeps repeating hurtful statement. Can you say anything constructive; I'd like to see that. I'm off my soap box; not saying any more to you.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! Did you hit your birthday target goal? You sound like you have made tremendous progress (so inspiring!) and so much self discipline to complete a 6 day fast. Whoa - you rock! Bullet proof coffee (butter/coconut oil) does the trick to satisfy my appetite too. May all your wishes continue to come true!
