flaxseed's Journal, 15 December 2009

I've had moment of revelation today. I've been following the south beach principles and watching how many calories I eat too. I have noticed that bread, rice, cereals and potatoes make me gain or stall. I've almost cut them out and have started to lose again. I had an e-mail from the diabetic society today and discovered that diabetics don't process carbs very well and that the old adage of 'plenty of good carbs' is not quite true and lots of people get better blood results with low carb diets. This has proved to be true for me. My DN only says to keep sugar in check. Any how I've decided that I need to raise my fat and protein and decrease my carbs - a bit like atkins. Most of my carbs come from fruit and veg but I've never looked at the levels in them. A bit of research needed I think cos the only thing I know about carbs in veg is that peas are high (I think).

Weather today has been beautiful. No frost and lots of sunshine and blue skies. Forecast is for snow tomorrow and the wind direction has changed and is now coming from the North - temperatures are dropping. Hope there is not too much snow for us to be able to go away on Monday.

My five

Wrapping a pair of wellies without a box into a presentable parcel

Having the patience to wait peacefully

Finding a pack of 5 pairs of posh pants in the drawer, too small but given as a present, and finding they fit nicely now

A walk up the road in the winter sun

Packing to go away for Christmas well under way.

Have a happy day

It's almost impossible to maintain the angle of decent that you had going. In the end, I believe that the old bottom line of calories in vs. calories out is what determines it all although, I'm not familiar with the special requirements of a diabetic condition. You are doing fantastic flaxseed, a small pause will do you more good than anything else. Take care...

I found the same thing when I was diagnosed with my food intolerances. No one believed it when I would say I ate ONE piece of pizza and gained 4 pounds! It was crazy...but for some people it DOES matter what foods we consume. I never would have believed it until I experienced it. Hope your plans for Monday go well and you have blue skies and bright sunshine for your trip!

Your recent drop on the chart is so impressive!! Interesting discovery on your part about carbs vs. protein!! You may well be onto something for yourself!!! Isn't it fun to find things that you couldn't wear before that fit now??? I love it!!
