flaxseed's Journal, 24 November 2009

I don't think I'll ever understand what makes weight go up and down. But do I need to as long as the overall trend is downwards? Still up even though I've been eating 'good'. Ollie is still not well. The vet had a look at his operation site on Saturday and was pleased with his handiwork but had to call him out on Sunday as the sites were red and inlamed and he was having a problem walking and looking very sorry for himself. Another antibiotic injecton seems to be working. He only has to hear the pill bottle rattle now and he's in the corner showing us his teeth! He's only warning - doesn't bite.

Weather is still dire. Managed to get out to town yesterday and could see the devastation. Acres and acres of land under water where the rivers have breached their banks and lots of the small side roads closed due to flooding. I feel so sory for those further west where some towns have had 8 ft of water in their homes and businesses, schools are closed, bridges down and towns split in two with a 90 mile round trip to get to doctors, shops and banks on the other side of the river. Its STILL raining and the trees are dripping and wet fallen leaves are causing a hazard on the roads. Oh for a bit of frost or snow!

OH has to go for his scan on Thursday and I'm apprehensively off for my H1N1 injection today.

There's lots of cleaning on the list for today. Those spiders have been working ovwertime again. What is it about Christmas and Thanksgiving that has us all dusting polishing and clearing out our junk? Coffee is calling. Have a positive healthy day

have you tried wrapping ollies pills in cheese or smearing them with peanut butter...that works for spazzypuppie...glad to hear that you and hubby are safe and dry...

You name it we've wrapped them in it. He just sucks it off or rolls the parcel round in his mouth and swallows and then spits the pill out as if to say 'have that back then'. I do put them down the back of his throat but it upsets him and he sulks afterwards, but needs must.

Holy smokes ... that is a lot of water!! So glad you aren't bailing buckets of water from your home ... might be more stress that you are ready for!! Sorry to hear Ollie is having such a challenge recouping from his operation. I hope he is back to his old self soon. I don't know if you have access to these but we discovered something called "pill pockets" for dogs. We used them for Caitlin's pills before she passed. They are made of soft stuff, shaped to put pills in them then smoosh them around. Caitlin always ate around the cheese or bread we wrapped her pills in before and then spit out the pills!! With the pill pockets she ate them up right away!! Check with your vet! Anyway ... as for the ups and downs of the scale even when we are being very careful ... I'm at a loss for words of wisdom as that is the same struggle I am having. All I can hope for is eventually it doesn't bother me so much. Maybe if I had weighed myself my whole life I'd realize it is normal ... but right now I'm pretty sure it means I'm doing something "wrong" even though my logical brain knows that is hogwash. Let's just keep encouraging each other ... and maybe in another year or two we'll have words of wisdom!! LOL!! Take care and try to stay dry!!

Sorry about all the flooding in your area. Our farmers here are still harvesting - late wet crop. So sorry about your poochy too. Things will look up. Thanks for the buddy invite. We were buddies for a while in my former Fat Secret life. Let's have a slim and trim Thnaksgiving! Okay? Okay!

I am so sorry to hear of the problems with the flooding and Ollie. My babies love their pills because sneaky mom puts them in a hotdog! Maybe peanut butter or something else would help Ollie not be so upset by them?? I truly hope everything in your world rights itself soon!
