A small victory today. Fixed Italian sausage and broccoli for dinner. Ate 2 sausages and a cup of broccoli. Put a 3rd sausage on the plate, looked at it and told DH, 'What the heck am I doing? I'm full already, I need to quit." So back on the platter went the sausage and into the dishwasher went my plate. Portion control is still a struggle for me.

YAY. But it's all mental and you totally realized what you did and stopped yourself !! That's AWESOME! I'm still shoveling food on my face while I'm going through that mental exercise lol ... I wish my brain felt full! My body sure does ! Well done!

Well done! Portion control is so important. That's one of my big problems still - if it's on my plate, I will eat it. I'd like to blame my Mom, but I suppose I'm a big girl now and should be able to make my own decisions!!

Yes Heidi, I just can't seem to leave food on my plate. This is especially problematic at restaurants where the portions are so large. But we can't waste food because there are children starving in China you know!

It's incredible how we are getting fuller faster. Perhaps our stomach is shrinking and our mind is thinking! I over ate last night - I cooked up 1 1/2 veggie patties - eyes bigger than the tummy... and by the time I finished the 1/2 I was full, but told myself the same old childhood recorded message "Don't waste it!" I should have wasted it so I don't "waist" it. Next time, I will say that to myself.

I found a smaller plate that still holds a full size meal..it works great!

You'd be surprised what I scoop into a 'glad' container after I eat! My boyfriends like, "Your actually going to save that little bit?" But I look at it as an in-between-meals snack, or, I'll add the leftovers to my next meal. I hate to waste stuff too - so I just don't. Also, if it's something healthy and there's only a couple of bites left, my dogs are MORE than happy to help out :-D

If I'm at home I will save leftovers if I put too much on my plate and eat it for another meal or repurpose it into a different food. At work I've gotten to where I just throw it away. I tell the cooks they give me too much but they do it anyway. I don't like to see it go to waste but I also don't want it going in my belly.

I used to wait tables at Olive Garden and there was this one lady that was running the weight watchers and when she would come in and make her order, she requested that we bag up half and bring half to the table. I thought at the time that it was a terrific idea! Then she had another meal all ready and no temptation at the table. Of course she always left me a nice tip so I was careful to do it for her. Just a thought for when you dine out.

It's hard to stop before you're stuffed. I know I tend to eat fast. I raised three boys so at one point it was survival. Now I have to learn to slow down and quit with food on my plate.
