We had a day out yesterday at Alnwick which is on the East coast. The sun shone, the sea sparkled and for a few hours all was right with the world. The outward journey through the cheviot hills and the Northumberland National Park was spectacular. The tops were hazy with the autumn sunshine and the heather just beginning to bloom giving the slopes a hazy purple colour in the distance. We walked round the gardens. (well me really, parked OH in the courtyard with a cup of tea and a pastry) There is a huge water feature with a grand cascade and there are lots of rills with water flowing down stone steps. The garden was inspired by the Duchess and has been designed by two Belgian landscapers. It was good to be on my own for half an hour or so and take in the beauty, particularly the roses. I always find mother nature has the power to restore, whether its wild and free or engineered by man.
I managed to keep my eating under control - just one small ice cream. I didn't look at all the wonderful cakes and pastries. I would have liked to go in the castle but it was not possible. All in all a good day was had by all. I even managed to get some shopping done too. Hope you all had a good day too.
