I am changing my diet from low carb to just generic calorie count. After some intensive therapy around overeating, I realize the low carb thing is just not working for me in the long run.
306.0 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 116.0 lb.    Diet followed N/A.

After making that realization I was able to finally start shedding lbs comfortably. Low carb drives you into a vicious cycle of low carbing, losing weight, then binge eating all your weight back and more. Once I realized carbs weren't the enemy things just became easier.

Thanks for your comment. Maybe it works for some people but for me, it was definitely the case of losing then binge eating back and more.

Do what works for you. That's all that matters. There is no right or wrong.

No problem. Oh, it definitely works, at the end of the day though even a low carb diet won't help you lose weight if the calories aren't in check(save for water weight). Your body craves carbs, why do a diet that makes you fight tooth and nail just to adhere to it when you can give your body what it needs and still drop lbs. That's my take on it. Good luck with the calorie counting. :D

I agree, what has worked for me (Loss 125 Lbs in 2013) was cutting the fat which in turn will cut the calories... I cut all simple carbs by reducing all sugar intake less than 20 grams daily.... Fibrous carbs are a freebie..... Eat 3 meals a day off a 6-8 inch plate.... And consume 1/2 to 1 gallon of distilled water a day.... I used myfitnesspal.com app at the time..... It uses USDA guidelines for category counts of protein, fiber, colestoral etc... And I keep within those guidelines pretty close.... found it hard to remember to log foods before consuming and sometime missed the mark.... Once the 24 hour day is over.... Just forget it and start a new and keep on keeping on.... Good luck on your weight loss and I hope this helps.... This info cost me about $200 and a lot of trail land error! I got another 61 pounds to go which I will accomplish but this time I am going C L E A N..... Yep, cutting out red meat for one thing, and try organic avenue.... Still researching and maybe not die of food poisoning and the tainted food chain in this USA of ours.... Wow, I think I got the start of a book here?

Every body is different and life styles are different too. The easiest change to sustain in the long run, is one that works for you. You can tweak any "diet" so that it fits into your life. Some just take longer than others to get to goals that are set by individuals. Bottom line, do what is best for you!

Nice job Harry! Great motivation. One thing I feel obligated to tell you though is that fat regulates hormones such as testosterone and a few others. Running a super low fat diet for extended amounts of time can throw your hormones out of wack and cause undesirable effects if you know what I mean. Try not to dip below 20-30 grams a day to keep things running smoothly. Again, great job with the gargantuan fat loss!

Thanks everyone, especially Harry. I will use that advice. I am really trying to reduce my red meat and increase veggies and water. Eating organic is a bit harder logistically but well worth it.

HEY Erin - I just saw you weer back on the path! I agree that low carb is often not the way for everyone. Balance is often my goal! So happy to "see" you here. Hang in there!

I eat medium carb (about 140 g carbs a day), but whenever I eat less than 120 g carbs by accident, my armband [pedometer heart monitor] sends me a message that says fruits, vegetables and grains contain nutrient-rich foods that may help your heart stay healthy and reduce your risk for chronic disease.

I have been counting calories for 9 months and have lost 47 lbs. I do 35 minutes of aerobics at least 5 days a week. I still drink 2%milk and eat cookies.

I am also changing to counting calories. I definitely have a problem with overeating. I have bought lower carb items that I intend to use like Atkins bars, miracle noodles and some walden farms dressings and sauces. Good luck to you.

You have to find what works for your body, otherwise this goes from being a new "lifestyle" to being the dreaded "diet" which no one ever sticks to forever. Good luck. I have lost from low-calorie and low-carb, but stuck to neither. My head is now focused and my body is following along. I seem to accomplish my goals with the low-carb so I have resolved to eat this way forever. We can do it, yes we can!

You can do it, just need to find out what will work for you. Trial and error and also what you feel good eating. Good luck and God Bless..

Not sure how much advise you are looking for? But I will throw in my 2 cents. What worked for me is cutting out grains (bread!), sugar and dairy. I can control my diet much better and feel much better. Sure I have a treat from time to time and ice cream is still the devil!

You just got to find out what works for you. I had to go back on a low carb diet because when switched to calories I eat what ever . I see it in the light that I need more discipline and a strict diet helps
