Johanne's Journal, 06 April 2021

I looked back at my weight history today. The last time I was in the 220s was 2014. For the past 8 years, I have been losing and gaining the same 7 pounds. I’ve been holding steady at a 42-35 lb weight loss since I originally lost 70 lbs. At least I didn’t gain it ALL back. The thing is, since I went gluten free (it turns out, I’m a true celiac), 11 years ago, I CAN lose weight. Prior to that, I really couldn’t without going under 800 calories a day. The minute I quit the crazy diet, I would gain it all back, +20 lbs, which is how I originally got here.

The fact that I’m not losing, now, is because I simply have NO self control. I don’t have to go on some crazy diet to lose, now. At this weight, all I have to do is stay under 1500 calories a day. If you’re making healthy food choices, that’s a fair amount of food. I can carry on for a week, but then I get bored and lose focus. It really is a brain thing. I obviously don’t want it enough.

I turn 77 in June. I have degenerative disc and joint disease. I have osteopenia and osteoporosis. I have some arthritis. I’m in a good deal of pain. If I don’t finish losing weight, I will soon end up immobile. I’m close to that now. I wish I could just build some self control and the focus it takes to push through. It really is a mind game.

Thanks Tasso. I have the knowledge. I sound like a dietician. I don’t have the will power! 🥴

You are a beautiful lady and your costume outshines those around you. ( I read your bio about medieval cosplay). Never give up, as our friend Mountain Man says. Sounds like you’ve done a lot of reflection about what works. Keep discovering new things. 💕

I wish you the best on your continued journey to stronger health. Motivation is such a struggle to find. Sometimes the only thing that keeps us going is the determination to form and maintain new habits. If you don't already know her, I would love to point you to "our" shirfleur. She is an amazing, retired lady who, without being able to be terribly active, is finding success and continues sharing her journey with us and encouraging us.
