CJT1217's Journal, 11 July 2012

Ok, so here we go. I'm at a point where I'm lean enough to start focussing on building the hard to get 6-pack. Currently I do weightless situps, leg raises, and bicycle crunches at home. I don't bother with a gym membership. So what's next? Suggestions on what to do and what not to do? Thanks!

planks!i also like to take a medicine ball and do what i've seen called 'pick-pockets'...I can't explain so search a video example maybe. my Turbo Jam exercise videos have standing ab exercises -- tuck your pelvis under and crunch you upper body down.

Planks! Roger that! And tucking my pelvis under and crunching down huh? kekeke. That's a funny visual...

yeah, it looks like a dance move you'd see in da club.

I want to go to a dance club with you, Jess.. ;)

Hehe, you guys go, I'll just watch.

I bet you do. For the most part MY moves (in that kind of atmosphere) consist of just shaking my butt and awkwardly waving my arms around when I think of it.

I thought I had some ab advice to share but screw that..the pelvis moves in the club are much more exciting! Woohoo Erika and Jess! Go girlz!

"The captain's chair leg raise is the second most effective move for the rectus abdominis as well as the obliques." -Top 10 Most Effective Ab Exercises (http://exercise.about.com/od/abs/ss/abexercises.htm)... there ya go!! And we all know the internet never lies!! Go work those abs!!

I take the internet's word as the pinnacle of truth! I get all my facts from Wikipedia. Haha! I'll try out these captain's chair leg raises. My lower abs are really lacking! I think I'm gonna shoot for 9 more lbs to lose while building. Then It'll be time to show the progress again >=)

Yesssssss... can't wait!

Erika, I don't think you REALLY want to go to a dance club with Jess. CJT1217, I definitely think core exercises: plank variations, situps, boat poses are the way to go

of course she wants to go clubbing with me. I'm the only one tall enough to dance with her!

P90X workouts? I do (some of) the sit ups exercises with a friend who's doing the full programme, and damn!, it is quite a challenge! You can find most of the routines on videos online.

I was using a trainer a few years ago, and she gave me a great one to do. You need a weighted ball. You sit on the end of a bench, and then lean back and bring your legs ups...sort of a V-sit. Then you take the ball in one nand and pass it behind one leg, and through your legs, and then transfer it to your other hand. You then continue passing the ball back and forth, weaving it around and between your legs. It was a great one. Another good one had you laying on your back, with your legs in the air. Use a rubber ball and reach up with the ball and put the ball between your feet. Hold the ball between your feet and lower your upper body to the floor again. Then reach up and get the ball. Repeat. Hope these make some sense to you! Good luck! Ditto the advice on plank. Side planks are great too.

All right! Thanks for the tips, my friends! That's plenty to put together a good ab workout. I'll even dust off my old P90x disc set (which I've been avoiding since I tweaked my lower back really bad with that damn superman-banana move!) and break out the ab disc.

Heather, I absolutely DO want to go to a dance club with Jess!!!!! Sounds like we have very similar dance moves.. and we could wear 6" heels and tower over everyone.. Also, please use CJT1217's real name: Clifford Jerome.. Thank you. ;) Clifford - I've done the superman-banana move too.. it's wicked..
