mendacity22's Journal, 24 February 2010

It seems like I've been eating and exercising pretty well for the last few weeks, but haven't seen any weight loss :( I've think I've checked a million different RDI calculators online to try and figure out how many calories I should be eating for my activity level, then took an average and I’ve been following it. However, when I look through some people’s diet calendars on this site (that are approximately my weight) I see a lot of them only eating ~900 calories a day. This certainly cannot be the answer?!? And even if it is the answer, I’m not willing to go there... My plan is to stick with my current intake a little longer and then I might actually try increasing my calories a little or maybe cycling (higher and lower calorie days) but keep my average the same.

There are approximately 3500 calories in a pound. Take calories in vs. calories out and and make your calculation as to how much you should be losing per day/week. By mass, muscle weighs five times as much as fat so take that into consideration, you may be getting more muscular. Other than that, unless you are not watching your calories properly or overstating your burned calories, there is no place for the fat to hide (unless you have a glandular problem, which you probably do not).

Thanks information, *sigh* I know all the stats and I'm pretty sure I'm following them correctly. I honestly record all my food on here. I don't usually record my excerise, I just tried it a few days to see what it came out to. By mathematical calculations the scale SHOULD be going down... But I feel good and I know I'm doing the right thing so I will just try to stick with it. :)

900 calories/day is not healthy and will decrease your basal metabolic rate. Short term you will drop weight but long term you are screwing with ur metabolic rate causing you body to go into starvation mode and decreasing the rate to a new adjusted MBR. Basically you will gain weight faster and easier and will need to work harder in the future to drop it. 1200 is the lowest you should go :)
