loveaic's Journal, 16 February 2010

Okay, I've been fluctuating between 161 and 162 for a month now! Doing great at maintaining my weight, but that's not what I am looking for:( I am hoping to be below 160 when I weigh in this Thursday. I hope I can do it, but that was my goal 16 days ago, too. I have been able to work out more and ran a 5K on my treadmill Sunday morning. I have got to turn this around. Sorry I sound so frustrated, but when I've needed to lose 10-15 pounds in the past before, I never had a problem (problem was I would gain it back). Even baby weight came off with not too much trouble only three years ago. Now I am struggling and it is hard. Is this an age(35) thing possibly at all? I don't know, I'm at a loss.

DEfinitely could be age thing. Could be you are adding muscle. (Are your clothes getting smaller?) Could be you need to mix things up. In the past I could eat chicken breast and salad for three days and lose 5 lbs. No more! At this point, if I want to bust past a sticking point (I won't even say plateau) I know I have to up the veggies and whole grains and avoid sugar and wheat. Maybe try mixing up your diet and try a new strategy for a few days? Everyone seems to have different preferences for the best weight loss. You have to play around and see what works for you now, versus what has worked before.

Yes, after 30 it can become harder to lose weight. So it is a good idea to get it off now. As you lose, you may need to lower your caloric intake because you don't need as many calories to maintain your weight (but don't go below 1200 so you can get in the proper nutrition. You might also try upping your intensity when exercising (such as running intervals (it burns more calories). If you don't do any strength training, you might want to start. As you get older, strength training will keep you firm and build muscle. The more muscle you have, the more calories your burn. Good luck!

That is so frustrating! You are working so hard and I am proud of you. It is maddening when the weight does not come off. Keep it up and if you ever feel like screaming or even swearing I will listen.

Thank you all for the comments. I think in the past I've been able to do it my way (work out as much as I wanted and eat what worked for me) and it worked and now life is even busier than before and I let stress and food trip me up. Like sabatoging myself. I need to stay positive and you guys help so much with that! Weekends are the worst because I don't stop to enter anything in fatsecret. I think I will make a promise to myself that I will enter everything this coming up weekend and see if that may be where my problem lies. Thanks all!

Yeah, I wouldn't be too focused on the scale if my clothes were fitting better, but they don't seem to be in my case! I'm not going to give up and I am headed to the gym right now! Thanks all!

Yeah, in the last couple weeks I've gotten out of the habit of entering EVERYTHING and it really has an effect. Not only am I not counting the calories but it also gives me permission, in a way, to have a bite here and there of all those little things that add up when you're entering. Entering is such a pain--but it really does work. I need to get back on that, too. Maybe take some time this weekend to make a batch of something you can eat during the week--like soup or chili. You can do this! You're at a learning point and you can PUSH past this and move forward.
