manda7870's Journal, 28 November 2007

Sorry I didn't have a chance to write a journal when I recorded my weigh in for Monday night. After my mysterious gain last weigh in, I was pleasantly suprised with a nice loss this time. 5.8 pounds which brings me to a nice round 58 pounds gone so far. I was out of town on vacation for Thanksgiving and started off trying to eat well but the Huddle House messed that up. I ordered the cholesterol free egg substitute only to find it cooked in butter, actually not only cooked in butter but swimming it it! I ate the sausage patty because I've really been missing sausage but it was not that good. I did eat the hashbrowns and a couple of bites of the grits but I was able to save myself from the toast after only one bite. I'm not sure how you can mess up toast but they did it royally! It tasted like hard cardboard. 2 hours into my vacation trip and WW was already starting to lose the battle. No lunch while on the road. Dinner at Olive Garden. I made a middle of the road choice, no heavy cream sauces but not just salad either. Then dessert. Day 1 and I packed in the idea of eating totally sensibly. Day 2 was Thanksgiving and I knew that I was going to eat my favorite foods and just try to be reasonable on portions. Wrong! I sat there at the table and thought about all of the suggestions from the previous week's WW meeting and how I was breaking them all. 1. Stand back and survey the table and decide what dishes you absolutely must try. Don't rush to be first in line. ME= Every other Thanksgiving with my dad's family, you snooze you lose, literally the food will vanish. So there I went, not absolute first in line but not far from it. 2. Eat the special holiday foods you only get on special occasions, not the everyday foods you could eat at home. Our leader's specific example was a roll. You can eat a brown and serve roll anytime but dad's homemade chicken and dressing or Pam's famous broccoli casserole, not so much. ME= Jennifer's (our leader)voice rang in my ears as a took another bite of my brown and serve roll with my dressing. 3. Get a small plate. ME= only one size of plate was out, regular styrafoam plate load it up! 4. Don't sit at the table to eat (with the dishes and platters right in front of you), get your plate and sit somewhere else. ME= In my dad's family you can't sit at the table until you graduate from high school (in other words become an "adult") so again, instincts kicked in and there I was at the table refilling my styrafoam jumbo plate with seconds. Oh well, one meal no big deal, right? At least I made the WW friendly sweet potato pie. Ate one piece. Dinner, lunch leftovers, repeat performance. Day 3 and 4, repeat day 2. Add in a good ole country breakfast each day and I was packing it in. All I can say is that maybe eating those mills while on the side of a mountain and tensing up on the drive up and down the mountain to the cabin everyday somehow negated the calories! Hope everyone had a great holiday and has a good upcoming week.
