Hi all

Been a long time. I felt like I needed to be honest with myself and weigh in. I gained weight so fast. I didnt realize that I gained even though I have not been that bad eating. I was finishing school which took up a ton of time and hard to keep active. But I have been lifting every week 1x during school. Since school ended I have been walking like crazy and now getting in 2-3x weight lifting days in.

However, I can't seem to control my weight and my body. I looked back at my hormone test results. I see that I have a slight insulin resistant issue which my doctor sort of explained. She just mentioned I had a hormone imbalance. But the results say I am possibly insulin resistant which is part of the hormone imbalance thing. I think this is the key to my weight issues. Because I am active.

I have to say its been a very difficult few months. I have a huge vacation during xmas and my weight is just not moving. Beginning of november i was 173. Now I am down to 168 and barely getting lower. I did some research on being insulin resistant. Pretty much I need to stay away from high carb processed foods, get sleep, workout and try not to be stressed

Anyone every overcome this? If so can you give me advise. I never felt so out of control of my own body! Its like no matter how healthy I eat I get no where. Then I give up. Do I stay strict and avoid gluten and just eat whole foods? will this fix this?

thanks
Ashley

thanks everyone for the comments. I will take all your advise. I think its a good idea for me to stay away from gluten and dairy as much as possible. I think keeping my carbs under 100 is very reasonable. I think If i keep writing down my food it will keep me accountable. thanks everyone for your advise and suppport

Hey Panigale, welcome back!! Same as a few folks above, I was diagnosed pre-diabetic, insulin resistant last July, 2015...that's why I came here and am still here. I found for me that I couldn't cut carbs out completely, but I sure could manage them better...so far so good, but it has only been just under a year and a half...I really hope that I can continue down this path for the long haul as it sure is nice not feeling bloated all the time. Take care, hope you find a path that works for you!!

I wouldn't recommend avoiding gluten specifically unless you've been tested and have sensitivity or intolerance to it. Going gluten free when you have no known problems with it could possibly MAKE you have problems! Also, I've heard that fats and oils are actually essential to us utilizing the vitamins and nutrients in foods like salads. Perhaps just make sure you stick to the serving size on the salad dressing (most bottles it's two tablespoons), and don't feel like you have to restrict yourself to low-fat ones since they're not necessarily any better for you. Anyways, don't worry; You can get this! :)

For some of us who are insulin resistant and having a hard time losing, going very low carb is the only way to kick into weight loss mode. 100 gms is way too high for me, I don't lose weight unless I get the carbs under 25 net. Experiment with your carb level and see at what level you are actually losing. This also means that you will need to be eating fats, because you can't cut everything. Get yourself a good book and a trusted web resource on low carb (Atkins, Dietdoctor.com). This means you must track everything. Good luck; you're on the right track.

since you ve been to the doctor already didn't he prescribe some medication for the insulin resistance (and of course tell you to stay off carbs)? i think this is the key...

I concur with Erika, when diagnosed on Feb 2016, my Dr has me doing 50 carbs or less daily and my blood glucose 10 months later averages 85-95 daily. It was 285 then. He has cut my Toujeo from 25 units a day to 5 units! I will be off those meds by my 1 year re-evaluation and 100 lbs lighter, like he wanted! dietdoctor.com started this journey and I am happy! Started Paleo, then started looking at keto recipes and now, it's like my life has always been this way! Blue Cross/Blue Shield says I should be 135-150 carbs a day, but that made my sugar above 150. I haven't had a store-made item since, we make EVERYTHING so we can control what goes into it. I'm sure Grandma is smiling knowing that her grandkids are cooking healthy again! Thanks again Erika for having me look at macros, it has been a big help!

@catherineeleanor She prescribed some natural supplements. I am using a holistic doctor because I do not want to be on some medication concoction. I have been working with her for 9 months now. My hormone test results say I am slight insulin resistance because of my hormone imbalance. I have higher testosterone levels. She has me not tracking calories because she thinks my issue is stress. But she wants me to track what I eat in a diary. Just writing what I eat down. She has me avoiding gluten and limiting dairy. But wants me to have whole natural foods, meat, seafood, veggies, fruit to not feel deprived. Many times I have tried low low card around 50g a day and with my workout regemin I got very tired quick and I couldnt stop binging on carb rich items. I tried so hard to go low carb but It turned me into an unhealthy binge cycle. When I took out fruit from my diet to reach low carb, it help pushed me to the same binge cycle that I couldnt stop which led me to this hormone imbalance and weight gain. Part of this binge cycle came a ton of stress and guilt which she see is another cause of this. Because of these factors she doesnt want me tracking carb/calories for a while. But I do not over eat fruit as it is. I find having fruit and potatos in my diet keep me sane and I dont want the crap food. I would say thats a good trade off. And honestly is think around 100g of carbs a day is good for me. Sometimes I eat less than that. Following this advise I went from 173 to 167 this month. Which included some splurges for thanksgiving. I think if I keep the stress low and eating clean I should fix my hormone imbalance and insulin resistance issues

i agree with you with the carb, you must keep them in balance and keeping track of each and every calorie will make you go kookoo. But still, yes you should make sure they re on the low intake side... and make sure they are the complex ones. No one died of fruit consumption neither did they get fat from it. Far from it i would say... I agree with you holistic aspect partly, but i do insist on the seeing an endocrinologist as well (for some t4 prescription) he might actually help you set the insulin thing right... But it's your call and since you lost what, 6 pounds this month, you re doing pretty well!!! how old are you again? cause i can understand some hormonal imbalance if you re a teenager or menopausal (or pre-)...

I think animal fat has bad hormone in it ? maybe if you stay away from animal fat , and too much protein ( especially meat ) try to be vegan for 1 week and see how it goes?

@bethinfriend I do buy grass fed and pasture raised meats from a special farm, I dont buy regular factory farmed meats. However my doctor has me replacing one meal a day with a vegan planet based meal. Hopefully this will help
