bradleigh07's Journal, 21 November 2016

So my weekend consisted of going shopping and getting the things I needed for Thanksgiving. It sucks having to get all the stuff for everybody and knowing you can't go hog-wild and eat all of it. I bought the stuff for Turkey, and my stuffing and mashed potatoes....CARBS! And of course all the stuff to make pies, and cheesecake. It's torture. I broke down and ate cool whip yesterday and totally feeling the after effects. I can give up a lot of things: alcohol, cigarettes, hell, even sex. lol. But FOOD! ARGH!

My starting weight in September was 268...I am now at 249. I wanted to be 30 lbs down by this time, and I've had a few minor set backs. I have got to get into gear. I am going to end up insulin dependent if I can't get some self control and tell myself NO! I have cut out all sugary drinks, my drinks consist of unsweet tea, with sweet n low. And water. No cokes. No SWEET TEA. And I have lowered my intake on noodles, and rice. I eat an occasional biscuit or roll. But I made many changes in my diet, it's just not good enough. And I really need to get my ass out there and run. It's just cold, and I don't like running in the cold. I always seem to get sick afterwards.

No more excuses. Get your ass into gear. BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE.

well, okthen78, you keep on getting that 400 carbs a day! My doctor put me on 50 carbs or less back in Feb. So far so good, my blood pressure 117/80, my blood sugar stays below 90. Dr Griffin has cut my insulin from 25 units a day to 5 units! I will be off all these meds for 2017! I am to have another sleep apnea study in Feb. Dr Ambaw says I will be off that also! Another you naysayers say "NAY", the rest of us say "YAY"! When I have ANY beans, my sugar goes up to 150, fuck that! I'll send all my beans to your dumb ass! I guess your just the Einstein of beans! Foods affect people differently. None of us are the same! If we were, this site wouldn't exist!

It's obvious okthen is trying to bulk up...which means he has to eat different foods, but to call someone uneducated because they have to eat a different type of food from you is a little rude. Rontravis, I appreciate your input on what you have to do, I have to lose weight, not gain it. :)

When I was diagnosed on Feb 8th, my Dr said 2-5 years, start planning your funeral! Pfffttt! I am not ready to go yet! Now it has been 10 months and I am FEELING just awesome!

First welcome to FatSecret, it works. I think it works differently for all of us. There are lots of positives you can gain: support, inspiration, camaraderie, recipes, exercises, diets, exercises. One other thing you will get here is opinions. People are passionate about what has worked for them. Take all the comments in the spirit in which they were intended (or should have been) of caring. For me the key was logging the food. Once I started doing that everything else fell into line (I am type 2 as well). When I reached my goal, I stopped logging and everything fell apart. I am back and after it again. I have one suggestion (again personal realization) that rises above the others - Don't think of this with a goal and end point. This needs to be something you can live with. I did this as a goal with and end point; it made to easy to think "Done". We are never done. As the per the well worn saying - "It is a marathon, not a sprint". You can do this. Being here and really trying is more of a first step than most people make. Good Luck

I appreciate the input mattstoc! I know everyone has what has worked for them, and that is awesome, but I hated that he went to the uneducated remarks....this isn't facebook. lol. And I know this has to be a lifestyle change...so I've got to do it. And 8hunter6 I am from the south! LoL! Texan all the way! Any diet that doesn't consist of too many carbs and no sugar. :)

Texan as well. I'm glad I never got the sweet tea bug. My comment was not aimed at your response. I actually didn't read the more passionate comments and your response till after I posted mine (the passion started on page two of comments). I was just hoping you would not get frustrated with the intensity. Keep the positive attitude. Good luck with thanksgiving.

Oh it's terrible, I LOVE Texas sweet tea, and I ruined it for myself :( But I got this :)

I'm in the South, too, and got the sweet tea bug. But since I went LCHF, I discovered that I actually like unsweet tea! And yes, for the Northerners here, you DO have to order it that way here! LOL. One thing I've learned recently is that different foods affect blood sugar differently than they affect insulin response. Since insulin is the fat storage hormone, that's what you need to watch. I found that navy beans actually are lower on the insulin index than white fish.
