LMH381's Journal, 02 October 2016

OK, it looks like 70% of my calories consumed today have been carbs...

I looked it up and I found a website that said your protein/fat/carbs should be divided up like below:

Protein: 10-35% of total calories
Fat: 20-35% of total calories
Carbohydrates: 45-65% of total calories

So does that mean I should concentrate on fruits/veggies the rest of the day?

Depends on your preference. That division wouldn't work for someone like me. My goal is to aim for more protein and fat, less carbs. I'm not on Atkins, I just found that anytime I would overeat, it would be with carbs, so I cut the majority of them out... So if you prefer more carbs as listed, then I'd say, sure, go with fruits and proteins the rest of the day - according to that division. But I'm certainly no nutritionist ;) Do you feel full? Content? Satisfied? Hungry?

It seems to be different for each individual. I learned from trial and error that my weight loss is steady if I keep each at approximately 1/3.

So, not to sound naive, but would the fruits/veggies have carbs too? I *think* some of them do. Plus, I know some of them can break down into a sugar. I actually would rather have lower carbs myself too, as it seems when I went on a low/no carb diet before, I lost weight easier. Do you feel full? Content? Satisfied? Hungry? <-- And no to all of these for the most part lol Altho, I noticed if I drink a lot of water, I feel full quicker/easier. But its a very temporary fullness. So most of the time I am walking around a bit hungry lately, which certainly hasn't helped my mood.

it does vary depending on the sites that you look at. just by looking at what you have eaten today, If IT WERE ME, I would have vegies and 6oz of some type of lean meat for dinner. I wouldn't have any breads, grains as carbs.... perhaps an apple. :-) Good Luck

Thanks Kimberly! Do you find it hard to track throughout the day? Or if you go to a restaurant? How do you account for the calories there when it seems a lot of restaurants foods are not listed on here?

Thanks HawksFan87! =) That's what I was thinking of doing, but it seems as if I am doing something wrong lately with my diet. Guess to many sweets/carbs? Guess like Kimberly says, some of it is trial/error and figuring out what works for you.

We don't go put to eat often. Maybe twice a year. Hubby like my cooking best. I try to make sure I eat high fiber which keeps me full for longer periods of time. If I do get hungry I usually pick high protein (like a boiled egg) as a snack. Avoid too many carbs because the rise and then drop in blood sugar makes you think you are hungry. Hope this helps.

I'm trying to remember exactly what it's called.... I get confused with complex and simple carbs. I think counting calories works best for me, but also "balance". I don't do well when I allow myself to eat certain things like cookes... I can't have just one or two and leave it alone. It's better if I eat ZERO, otherwise It seems to spike my cravings. There are carbs that are ok or 'better" to eat... raw fruit and vegies. Apples are a good choice, fill you up and seems to satisfy wanting something "sweet"
