I'm glad Fat Secret keeps sending me reminders to weigh in. I've been ignoring them but now I think it is time to get back into the discipline. That is what losing weight is all about. In some ways, I see gaining weight as an addiction to food and like a drug addict, or gambler, it takes discipline to do something about it.

Lack of discipline has been so prominent in my life since I last signed in here. I'm not looking for sympathy, but something akin to dementia has taken over my spouse. I feel so much anger, frustration and my blood pressure has gone up, just like my weight. Now, I'm over 250 and fear that I am well on the way to breaking my promise to myself that I would not go over 300 again.

So I'm slapping myself and getting some discipline back.

Good for you for taking the reins again! It's one day at a time. Dementia is hard, especially with your spouse. I am a home care provider and have worked with many families who are sharing that experience. Has he/she been assessed? They have found some useful drugs that can be helpful if you get a diagnosis! Best wishes to you and yours!

Thanks for your kind words. He's still seeing professionals in the hopes of finding a diagnosis -- since January. A lot of testing, and still seeing a psychiatrist, before the final neurologist. I have found taking time out for myself does help, and I do get out there with friends as well as volunteering with SPCA, for the sake of my own sanity.

Welcome back. You've identified the problem, and you know the solution. You've taken the first step, and that's a win. I hope I'm not stepping out of line when I advise you to look into a ketogenic diet for hubby's dementia. It's being used in many neurological applications with promising success.

wow, you do have a stressful situation there. Good for you for not aggravating the situation by eating your way into deeper trouble. Take care!
