flaxseed's Journal, 16 December 2009

I shall be glad when the next couple of weeks are over. These are the darkest and most dismal and depressing days of the year. It starts to get dark around 3 in the afternoon and doesn't get light til turned 9. Its the shortest day on Monday so it should start to get better. This is the price we pay for the long days in summer when you can read outside at 11. pm. We've had snow forecast for the last couple of days but it hasn't appeared yet, but the heavy frosts still make everything pretty. I just hope it doesn't arrive as we're setting out on our travels.

OH commented yesterday that I ran up the stairs with an armful of clean washing and we got to thinking about the thing that I can do now that I couldn't have done 2 years ago, even though 've still got a long way to go. I can do the laces up on my trainers easily; I can lean forward and put my elbows on my knees; necklaces hang much further down my neck; I've got collar and wrist bones; I don't have to worry about which chair to sit in and so so much more. According to my height I should weigh about 68kg, but I don't ever see me getting that low - I haven't been that low since I was about 14!. We'll see when I get a bit nearer.

A trip into town on my own

A new flower spike on last year's orchid

Ollie in tip top health

A new hot water bottle

Good friends who support me even though they're far away

Have a good day all

I hear you about the short days but you must be further north than I am-sark around 4 and light by about 7. Sounds like when I was in Alaska-dark at 3 and light at 10. Congratulations on all the things you can do now. It is a great feeling.

I also understand the shortness of days ... I always look forward to December 21st when the days slowly start to get longer!! And I do so enjoy the long days of summer here!! I love your summary of all the things you can do more easily now .... at a lighter weight, a smaller you!!! It is indeed a wonderful feeling and important to pay attention to. I am so proud of you!! And I continue to think of you and your OH often and send positive thoughts to you both through these difficult and uncertain times. Somehow, we'll all make it through this ... one way or another!!! Here's to hoping the weather cooperates with your travel plans!! Cheers!!

I too find the short days tiresome. The light will be returing in the next few though! Hurray! I will have to send you my orchid...poor thing never flowered again after the first blooms it came with faded...I love your 5 today AND adore your list of things that are different. How wonderful! Bravo to you! :)
