Just some musings....

As I'm celebrating 8.5 lb loss, I realized that FS notes losses according to your first WI. Now it's making sense to me....either way, I'm getting to my goal...I know it and I feel it. I felt it last night as we had a small birthday party for my great nephew at my home; eating any thing that was not on my plan wasn't even a thought. That is such a good feeling!!! (my great nephew turned 4 and he's such a cutie...wish I could figure out how to put a pic on my journal entry.

Can't recall if I asked this or meant to. Regarding IF, my niece tells me that it causes a strain on the heart and cautioned me against doing it. I would love some input.

Have a lovely weekend!

When you're doing your journal, there's a button that looks like a mountain/sun. That's the one you'd choose for inserting a picture. Click it then click between the [img][img] to insert the link/picture. No spaces or it won't show up right. Takes a time or 2 to play with it to figure it out.

I was diagnosed with heart disease in 2002. Since starting LCHF/IF last year I've seen improvement in every measurable variable; blood work, blood pressure, heart rate, etc., my cardiologist has been dumbfounded and left speechless the last two times I've been in to see him. Not a negative word about my diet or the way I'm doing it.

Don't you just love to stump the experts!

He told me that he didn't care what I ate, as long as maintained my weight loss and continued to have good labs, blood pressure, etc., he was pleased.

First, good for you, Linny! Isn't it empowering to be able to pass up former temptations with no struggle? Reading that made me SO happy for you! Second, Phil, I love testimonies like that. I was having almost daily palpitations before starting LCHF/IF...to the point I was getting ready to make a living will. I haven't had a single episode since I started. 3.5 months palpitation free. Linny, ask your niece for the source of her information...or better yet, research it yourself. Everything I know about IF says her warning is bogus, and while probably well-intentioned, most likely generated by the pharmaceutical industry. When I first started LCHF. a friend went into panic mode and said a dear friend of hers died because he was "doing Atkins". This lady is T2 diabetic, has fibromyalgia, and a half dozen other conditions....and refuses to even look at info other than the USDA/NIH recommendations for diet. SMH.

Since starting LCHF/IF my health has improved 100x, I went from almost dead to damn near a clean bill of health, the only issue I still have is an erratic EKG, and that will never change.

I have shed palpitations, peripheral neuropathy (numb and tingling fingers and toes), sleep apnea, profuse sweating, breathlessness with a flight of stairs, depression, ADD and social phobias. And mostly shed ringing in the ears. Plus people don't look at me with as much of their fat phobia, so less prejudice and hatred! Also, I almost forgot -- no more fibromyalgia and joint pain. I didn't think of myself as sick and miserable, but I'm certainly glad to be healthier!

Linny, interestingly enough, there was just a little thing called Longevity Summit 2016 where several Doctors and other health care professionals got together and shared ideas for extending quality health years to your life.....one of the several ways to add years to your life....is IF. If it damaged your heart, people would not still be fasting on a regular basis after thousands of years for religious and purifying purposes. Dr Fung has studies that show fasting decreases your risk of CHD. I would recommend that you read the book by him called "The Obesity Code" It's an easy read, broken down into an understandable format that explains the theory behind the practice.

After reading the posts here and reading about the success so many have attained on LCHF it really sounds like something I need to do.... what is that saying about when you keep doing the same thing and keep getting the same results...yada yada....you guys I think know what I'm saying. Besides which, I can list quite a few conditions I have from my head to my toes that create pain...I'm on 4 meds just to try and control the pain. And living in pain, as many know, can easily put you in that dark place...depression. It's a messed up cycle. Have most of you started the LCHF and then started IF, or have you started LCHF and IF at the same time? I'm thinking it might be difficult to start both at the same time. Now I need to see what supplements are best to take...I believe they are listed in the ruled.me packet. If you all have any suggestions, they are always welcomed. Presently I don't take any vitamins...probably should. Debra I've been trying to watch Dr Fung's video's and either my eyes start closing or my laptop overheats and shuts down. Besides, I enjoy books....real books....paper...something to hold when I curl up on the sofa with a cup of java. Much thanks to all! I come off this site always feeling "high"! :D

I started June 14, last year, low-carb, Atkins New Diet Revolution, after about six months transitioned to LCHF via dietdoctor.com, and a few other websites, and started IF about a month later.

not saying yay or nay but after 15 years or more of Atkins, I started the IF when I stayed on weight hault for weeks at a time. IF was the only thing that got me over the hump to start loosing again. reguardless of what WOE you choose you will have spats where you will gain or either stop loosing. And if you are one that doesn't have that issue, I am happy for you. people use the IF even when not on LCHF dieting and have results also. I fast 16:8 with not problems. I do 24 hour fast for purify and sacrifice the longer you can go, the better you will feel. Not giving advise this is just what works for me, and we all are different. what works for 1 does not always work the the other. Try different things, YOUR body will let you know what is right and what is not.

I started with LCHF, the started Intermittent IF (which is a fancy way of saying I did it half-assed) I took a ten month break then came back in March of this year and got back on track with LCHF and in April I went for IF in a real way and got real results. I have lost 43 pounds since March.

I don't disagree with anything said above (and Phil is my idol), but I will say that there are so many different types of heart problems, it might warrant discussing with your doctor before embarking on any severe fasting program. You also need to consider any meds you are taking and any dosage requirements -- for example, I have some that I take in the AM before breakfast and one that I have to take with the evening meal, so if I were to set up a fast schedule, I'd have to work around those. As others have said, everyone is different and you have to consider your own body and medical requirements.

I agree, read the book it explains everything. As you know, I started both at the same time. I have one friend who's really interested but when she told two other friends the other day (Both pre-diabetics, one who cured herself through diet and the other a nurse.) they both said this HFLC thing wouldn't work. Well, the data says otherwise.

Thanks Phil. Your before and after pics are such a wonderful encouragement...really appreciate you posting them! I will be doing the same...once my body gets use to this new lifestyle, I will do IF. It's funny, I was looking for suggestions on LCHF meals on google and just came upon dietdoctor. I poo-pooed low carb for so long....couldn't imagine giving up my bagel, oatmeal, and the 'occasional' chocolate...but the reality is I have eaten enough bagels and chocolate for 2 lifetimes, at least! Enough!

That was the same mentality I had when I started last year, Linny, I figured being in my forties I had consumed enough sugar/high starch foods for three lifetimes, that giving it up wasn't really that big of a deal.

My weight loss journey has come in phases of discovery. I yo yo'ed for most of my life; lost 70 lbs ten years ago on Weight watcher's, then gained it all back:( Five years ago I discovered that my mental health and weight were vastly helped by giving up first wheat, then all grains and sugars. I read about and followed Paleo, which lead me to reading up on low carb. I've been just getting progressively more serious and focused as I educate myself. I was stalled; losing and gaining the same 10 lbs for two years, before I came here. Since mid-April, I've been tracking every bite, and learning and encouraged by the community here on FS. This has gotten me to try IF with exciting results! Thanks everyone for pushing me off my plateau and getting me into a weight-loss descent. :) <3
