Samiam9663's Journal, 30 April 2016

OH, how irritating. Quite disgusted with the scale - and my lack of progress. Okay, breathe - so I had a mostly decent week, but was "rewarded" with a .2 loss, after a pound gain the week before. So I'm still .8 over where I was three weeks ago. This is particularly annoying since the numbers said that I had a fairly massive calorie deficit this week. If I were to focus on the positives (and this morning I don't really want to, because I'm busy being p*ssed...) I think that I do have more energy, and more bounce to my step. I don't think the inches are changing, I haven't felt any difference in my clothes, but I DO feel better. This wasn't a normal week - there was a reception with dozens of oh-so-tasty cheese appetizers, I had Indian buffet with a dear friend for her birthday, and went for gourmet pizza with another friend before attending a lively right-to-die debate (more freaking food). Okay. So the scale isn't everything - actually, it was a brilliant, thought-provoking, soul-restoring, community service week. There.

What "numbers said there was a caloric deficit"?

Not to worry - the foods at those receptions may have contained quite a bit of sodium that affected your progress. Be angry, and carry on!

Thanks, trackin, good advice - especially the "be angry" part - rage is an excellent motivator ;-) And Jimmie, the numbers reflected on my fat secret...calorie output v input on the monthly view. I SHOULD have seen more than a .2 loss, since those numbers say there was an over 8K calorie difference in what I took in v what I expended.

Better to have a fascinating social life than to live by the scale. You're doing great, and this is a long-term project. Stay focused and you will move in the right direction.. Also, I agree about the sodium. I've banned pizza -it's just poison for me; makes me go all bingey for days.

I think numbers on here can be "off". Maybe lower your daily calories?

Find a pair of blue jeans that are snug, then take your thumb and insert it into the waist band and pull. Now you have a baseline. Henceforth, instead of stepping on the scale, use the same snug pair of jeans and the thumb test, forget about the scale, it's just going to make you emotional, and only check your progress every couple of weeks or so, you have to give your plan a chance to work.

I'm gonna do that too, Phil!

The scale should be called an idiot box, you are going in the right direction, if you feel good and feel accomplish then just keep going forward and do not worry about the idiot box.

SO. MUCH. WISDOM ON THIS SITE! So Erika - you have just reminded me of something TERRIBLY important...you're absolutely right, this is not a diet I'm living, it's a life. Would I have changed any of my experiences this week, for a lousy weight exchange? Absolutely not. Could I have had the same experiences without the food? In two cases, yes - so mental notes made. Eat before I go to receptions because there is simply no WAY I can say no to cheesy goodness, at suppertime, when I'm starving. And the debate would have been just as fascinating without the cookies - I was already full of pizza, for heaven's sake! The dinners - no. Those were necessary and required and they fed my soul, as only breaking bread and laughing your head off with good friends can do. Rckc - I lowered my calories a couple of weeks ago, but they still seem high to me, so I will totally do that again. And Philmck - that's a GREAT idea. I haven't owned a pair of jeans since I lost my waistline (I think it's under there somewhere, can't say for sure, haven't seen it in a couple of years) but I do have some pants and skirts with actual waistlines that I have hidden away in my "I Have A Dream!" boxes - for when I lose enough weight to fit into them again. I'll find something and do that, instead of weighing and getting emotional. Maybe I'll even go to Value Village and find a pair of jeans I can do up (not for wearing out - jeans, on this body, right now, resemble nothing so much as a badly inflated balloon with a rubber band around the middle - not a good look at all ;-)) and use them for your suggested strategy. Have a beautiful week, everyone, and thank you all for your wisdom and time!
