Sometimes you just have to get through life before you can take care of yourself. Good luck!

I just learned high cortisol levels shut down digestive functions so your body doesn't absorb nutrients as well. I learned a few foods which don't require lots of preparation which help combat stress. (I've been dealing with it too, and am at a point I feel I need to be proactive about it, otherwise I'm headed for a nervous breakdown, or worse.) Oatmeal, berries, turkey, salmon, leafy greens, and cashews are all good stress combatants, and a few of them help you feel satisfied with a smaller portion. Most of them don't require any kind of elaborate recipe or preparation, and aside from the Salmon, they don't have to be terribly high cost. It's also recommended to prepare your food and slow down while eating it, to get those salivary processes going. (Also an important part of digestion.) The nutritionist that spoke also said during periods of high stress, or for chronic stress to add B vitamin supplements and fish oil. B vitamins are good for energy and we burn through them faster when cortisol levels are high. It's not a fix all, but it can help. Good luck, and I hope things calm down for you!

Add Avocados to that list. I always forget those.
