Did my 24 hour fast yesterday. Lemon water and black coffee for me. I may have some broth next week. I was hungry for awhile in the evening but other than a headache it was a good day. Good luck on your fast, looks like you are aiming for 36 hours instead of 24. I'm not there yet.

what is "fast" ??

From google, Fasting is primarily a movement of willing abstinence or reduction from certain or all food, drink, or both, for a period of time. An absolute fast is normally defined as abstinence from all food and liquid for a defined period, usually a period of 24 hours, or a number of days.

Good for you!! I've been reading up on fasting and it is SO good for health (assuming you're not diabetic). I'm thinking of starting an intermittent fasting schedule -fasting 16 hrs per day (half of that is during sleep) and eating in only an 8 hr window, (basically, 1 high protein/fat snack plus one regular meal). The hard part will be making sure i workout in the fasting part of the day to accelerate fat loss. Worth a try given the health and weight loss benefits, and it will be easier to keep my carbs down if i am only eating twice a day.

I wouldn't think abstaining from liquids would be good for you. Opinions??

I routinely do a 16:8 intermittent fast but for one day a week (actually 40 hrs) I will only have coffee, tea, water, or broth. I agree with Rhontique that I don't think going without fluids is good, especially in my age group (50+) as kidney function starts to slip anyway...

Wow, outlanderfan, so you normally do 16:8 day to day, but then in addition, one full day of fasting? Kudos to your amazing willpower! I saw your weight history chart and the downward slope is incredibly impressive -did you start the fasting schedule in November (when your weight loss really seemed to speed up)? Does it hurt your workouts on the full-day fasting days?

From my reading, rhontique, your body needs extra water and salt to prevent dehydration and loss on minerals like magnesium and potassium.

How do you fast 24 hours if you have to take meds that say take with food?

@120wg: I have been doing the intermittent fasting since around November but this was only my 2nd week of a day and a half long fast. Got better results last week. This week I think I over did it on the salted broth. We'll see how the rest of the week goes. I may be in for a heck of a lot of time in the bathroom peeing it off! I hate to disappoint you, but I don't work out! I just go to work and come home (LOL).

@Addie Aline: Fortunately, none of my meds I have to take with food. I suppose that if that were the case, a coffee with cream would suffice because most of the meds that require to be taken with food really need fat for absorption. A Tbsp of heavy cream is only about 50 cal.
