Yearofhealth2023's Journal, 01 November 2023

I find myself watching episodes of friends. I hadn’t seen it since it stopped airing till I was in California recovering. Forgot how funny they all were/are. So so sad about Matthew Perry. The notice of his passing is what made me watch the reunion interview from 2021 on hbo max. Totally different perspective watching it post-passing. Appreciation to all of you who have encouraged me to continue on my journey to get healthy. Thank you all.

I never saw it originally, but watched the whole series a few years ago (binge watching). It was a good show. Matthew Perry's life was tragic, as are so many lives of the famous.

My cancer has progressed to stage 3. I now live in moments. I try and appreciate and truly savor everything... Live in the moment, don't take people/things for granted, be kind and this life will have been all worthwhile 💜 Best of luck to you

He had made it his purpose in life to bring awareness to prescription drug addiction and how that leads to use of street drugs. So many in the public eye with that same struggle whose autopsy showed drugs in their system. I am praying his story is different that they find no drugs and it was the damage from past use that contributed to his death. He was a great actor and enjoyed watching his talent through the years.

It is a very sad thing about Matthew Perry’s death. Addiction is such a life struggle. It runs very high in the men in my family. I was so affected by it that every time I tried something I liked, I never did it again. I rarely drink, ( maybe have a glass of wine once a month or so..)don’t use drugs, never smoked, etc but yet others in my family have had severe issues. I’m even worried about pain drugs they will give me after heart procedure. Food for me was a bit more complicated. I originally gained so much weight from health issues and then did not know how to lose it. I do see that obsessive behavior in my family though in my workout regimen. As my husband says, at least it’s a healthy obsession. True but still an obsession.

I loved Friends and have all seasons on DVD somewhere in the garage. So sad. I used to drink wine every weekend, never during the work week because it gave me a headache. Now I rarely drink. Maybe 6 to 8 drinks a year mostly during the ho!I days (eggnog with whatever goes in it, brandy or rum). When I was around 20 I bought a package of Virginia Slims and tried smoking them. I didn't like it and eventually I asked myself if I wanted to be like my parents, Both heavy smokers. I do take prescription Ibuprofen at night because of leg and now, knee pain. Not every night, but most nights

I would like to watch the entire series again because there are probably years that are blurred for me between raising kids and running around taking care of things. Something great to binge watch this winter.

Definitely remember watching this show every Thursday night. Addiction is a crazy thing, I saw an interview where he said he didn’t remember filming a lot of scenes when he watched the show years later. Definitely a sad story.

@br00talbananas that’s my philosophy as well. Sympathy for you at stage 3. Prayers you go into remission.

@honeebuns agreed. I read he was prescribed antidepressants and anti anxiety which i believe was Valium. When i had a second surgery 45 days after my full hip replacement i passed out and landed on my face. The pain was incredible and i went thru something like 30 Valium in one day. I didn’t even realize. I was just trying to knock myself out. Im not now, nor ever have been, a drug user and when hubs came home we both realized that could easily have been deadly. I was taking 3 or 4 every couple hours, forgetting when i had taken them. Hoping that is not the case with poor Matthew Perry.

Diana, it runs in my family as well. Like you, ive never done drug, nor smoked and never drank much due to being so aware of empty calories in alcohol even when young. I also worry about pain meds and try and get off them way too soon or let the pain get too extreme. I didnt do that with arms and tummy surgery this summer but i had a scary thing happen last year after a surgery which i put in the post to honee. However, for your upcoming surgery, stay ahead of the pain. . What hubs and i did this summer was put him in charge of the meds and that worked much better. Prayers for you on Monday. A week from now you will feel so much better and it will go by quickly. God bless you and your surgery my friend. Xoxo

Fritzy you should watch them. They were so funny and so charming. I dont think ibuprofren is anything you have to worry about getting addicted to fortunately. Wish your leg and knee would heal for you tho. Ive been on a friends binge for past couple days. Funny funny people.

@redporchlady-there are tons of these shows i dont even remember. It’s been rainy and gray here so ive had the fireplace and candles going and just cuddled with my furry boys and laughed at this show yesterday and today. I remember where i was in life when these shows aired and wish i could o back to my young self with the wisdom of my old self. You know, it is all going to be all right dont worry so much😂

@kennyn27 i watched the friends reunion from 2021 after they announced his death and he said he could tell by a season or an episode if he was drinking too much or drugging and if drugging what type of drug based on how he looked in the episode. Sad. Seemed like he was finally getting some peace in his life. I had forgotten it was on Thursdays but you’re right it was!
