Yearofhealth2023's Journal, 25 October 2023

I just realized that i often look for quite a while at the posts of peoples food. Especially food that i dont allow myself to have. Almost OCD. Im wondering if this is healthy or unhealthy for me. Or does it satisfy in some small way the desire for these foods that i wont or dont eat? Most specifically sugary/baked goods, bread and anything with copious amounts of cheese. Or protein that looks like it’s been smothered in butter or oil. For now, im still in a good head space to eat sustainably for myself but it is a bit of a thinker. I saw a place in Texas that does the most amazing milkshakes that must be 3-4000 calories apiece. Looked at that quite a bit. Sigh….

I don't know I think it's completely normal. Even if you're looking at things you have no intention of eating. Sometimes I watch these shows of these crazy creations that people come up the food is crazy expensive/ or bizarre I just watch it cuz I like why people just why...? Make foam out of premium food or deep-fried Mars bars (they do that they also deep fry butter), why? I think sometimes people just look at things just to look at them. But no, I don't think there's anything wrong with you looking at foods that you may want that you can't have or won't allow yourself to have. I don't think it's particularly unhealthy or healthy. I mean you know a 5000 calorie milkshake isn't healthy, but you also know that for 5,000 calories it's got to taste absolutely fantastic! But now I'm curious what exactly is in a milkshake like that?!

So would you consider that food porn! Interesting to ponder. I am the opposite and don’t want to see them. I look at it like AA for sugar and feel it would trigger me. But for you I think if it doesn’t cause you to crave those foods and seek them out then you are ok. You are looking but not acting! Sounds like we are talking about looking at hot guys! 🤣

I just look at how much that FS member weighs, and that shuts down any drooling over what they post. Besides, there are much prettier food websites if you really want to torture yourself!

So you allow yourself a cheat meal each week? Maybe you would be happier to incorporate one.

Cheryllyna i cant allow myself a cheat meal. One would turn into two then three and so on.

RPL-hahahaha. Exactly like looking at hot guys. When i was younger i would look and lust but now i can see a beautiful man (or woman tho im strictly heterosexual i appreciate a beautiful woman also) but i dont lust after them anymore. Im so happy and secure in my relationship that may be it or maybe just age? So, kind of the same thing. I look at the pictures for a minute. Think about how it would taste and move on. Like looking at gorgeous houses and interiors. I love to look at them, i love to design but im not going to bankrupt myself by purchasing. Wow. That’s an aha moment. Thank you for making me go down that rabbit hole. That makes sense to me.

Leah, it’s called The Yard in Texas. Look at their website. Some crazy crazy milkshakes. Milkshakes topped with cake, milkshakes with glass enrobed in chocolate and pretzels. Amazing looking tho my tummy gets a little sick thinking about how much fat and sugar is in one. I do love the cooking shows always have but I think thats more a fascination with people who CAN cook and bake and have them taste great. I love the Great British Baking Show for example. Can’t figure out why Paul Hollywood and Prue aren’t enormous with all the tasting they do. Not that they are super super thin but still…

JB how did you know which one i looked at? The one i specifically looked at she’s lost over 100 pounds so far and her food looks delicious. But there are several folks on here that i love what they post for food pics. Just cant eat that way. For example, i dont eat any 4 legged animal protein but i still miss having a really good steak and it’s been 30 years. Sigh.

YoH, I don't pay attention to how much weight someone has lost -- I only check to see what their current weight is. The logic being, if I want to weigh what they do, then I should eat like they do. The pictures don't really bother me anymore, and there's even one "dieter" that I check on to have a good chuckle. So does Hot Hubs eat steak in front of you at home?

Nothing wrong with looking 👀! 😅 Sometimes inspiring, sometimes just a train wreck.

JB NO WAY on hot hubs. He’s super supportive. We dont keep ANYTHING in the house that may be unsafe for me and that includes certain protein bars that i may like too much. When that happens he replaces with something i wont like (currently that is nasty BUILT puff bars ick). His father was super morbidly obese (over 500 pounds) and we lost him 8 years ago directly as a result of that weight (heart couldnt take it). He is a 22 year sober alcoholic so he understands addiction both personally and laterally as in the case of his father. I just happen to be a sugar addict. And for some reason he loves me more than anything in the world. (Probably because i have moments of fabulousity😂). So, no, he never eats anything in front of me or actually at all that isn’t pretty healthy. Sometimes he will have a donut but i dont really like donuts so not a big deal. Im pretty lucky that way. I see a lot of folks on here with family members brining in bad food and then they end up eating it.

I’m sorry yoh. Don’t make the bread. I had no idea it was this deep for you. But I also respectfully, won't stop posting, just don’t look. 😜😂 Man, aha moment for me….people really do have issues with food pictures. I’m sorry you struggle so much with this. I don’t at all. Never been an addict of anything so I really don’t understand. It must be hard. I hope some day you are delivered. Love you my love !!! 💖🙏🏻

YOH-- it's called wisdom. You've learned through hard-fought experience what your limits are. There's a reason why greed lust and gluttony are traditional sins. We learn why and if we're smart, just avoid those traps. Envy in any form can sink you, so just don't swim in that water.

Maybe the main question to ask is how much time do you spend doing this. Is it 15 min or 3 hours? And are you OK with it? Feelings of envy or wishing can be tricky. I personally try to spend very little time wishing, as it can lead to feelings of less than.

lol I'm laughing because I have the same issue. I love coming on here and looking at delicious foods, healthy and unhealthy. I'm a hard-core foodie, so I think that has something to do with it.

I do the same…lol. I tell my husband some these meals look so pretty. I can cook but don’t like to. My daughter is a great cook and she’ll meal plan me when she does hers😊. I’ve limited my sugar intake and know what I can and can’t have but moderation is the key. Carbs make me grow🤪

I love looking at food. If I then tried to eat all the food I saw that would be a problem. I do find the discussion of checking someone’s weight as a measure of their woe’s validity to be somewhat silly because except in extreme cases weight tells you absolutely nothing/very little about body composition or health (and why are people busy judging others anyway?? The only thing I imagine it could do is help boost your own self esteem, and that’s not a great way to do it) By far the most “controversial” thing I’ve said here but 100% true 😌

I know what you mean about looking at gorgeous houses and interiors!! We live in a very tourist area and the homes on the lake are expensive!! But I still love looking at them and if they do tour of homes I enjoy going thru them. But I know that I am not going to own one or like you said spend a lot of money on decorating because I want to enjoy life and live within my means. Now we both have went down the rabbit hole!
