Capie2's Journal, 06 October 2023

Been doing 18:6 IF every day since mid Feb and the past month 20:4 when not at home at 14h00 when my eating window starts. The past month I also started to make Sundays a free eating day but stop eating and start my fasting for the coming week at 20h00. So I am very comfortable doing IF, find it to be very easy and used to an 18 / 20 hour fasting day.

I want to start doing 36 hours fasting once a week and plan to start at 20h00, the same day I break my 18:6 hour fast at 14h00 .. So my eating window will be 14h00 to 20h00 starting the 36hours at 20h00. Maybe do the 36 hour fast from say Friday 20h00 to Sunday 08h00? Not really to lose weight (have reached my goal weight and just doing some fine adjusting for a perfect BMI number) but for the health benefits! With 18:6 and 20:4 you are there but not quite in terms of inducing proper autopathy?!

Is this the right thing to do?
Anyone else made the transition to a longer / extended fast?
Any recommendations?
Your experience?

I currently fast from 20h00 to 14h00 / 16h00. Extending it will mean my fast will end at 08h00 the next morning in stead of the previous afternoon. I don't think I'll have dificulty extending as I am sleeping most of my fasting window and especially the extended fasting window?!

Would love to hear from anyone else's experience ..?!!

Very interesting, Elize. I am currently doing IF of 16-8 and working my way to uping my fasting hours to be able to do ADF. Unfortunately I cannot give advice as I am just starting myself, but learning a lot as I go.

Doing the longer fasts aren't healthy for you, could lead to something like diabetes, because you just shocking your body with food after long periods of time However, in contravention to this, I have done 72 hour now and again If you want good weightloss, then this is good

@Elize58 .. I read or seen somewhere if you have done IF for a long time the hunger hormone switches off in your brain! It explans to me why I haven't experienced any hunger on 18:6 and this being easy for me so far!

Ok .. Nearly done .. 29 minutes to go! This was really easy and feel I can easily do a 42 hours or 48 hours fast .. BUT .. Not today. What I thought it would be beforehand: 1. Hunger 2. Cravings 3. Maybe headaches 4. Tired / loss of energy 5. Etc. BUT .. my experience was all but the above. Instead My experience was: 1. Definitely easy 2. No hunger of any sort 3. Had 2 mugs of green tea and lots of sparkling mineral water 4. Felt clear headed and energised right through Definitely thinking of maybe doing once a week but definitely at least once a month. This was my 1st time on an extended fast. Thx for the support guys!!

Breaking my fast with: 1. Organic Beef bone broth (from Wellness Warehouse) 2. 1 Grapefruit - I love grapefruit! 3. Organic plain yogurt and muesli with blue berries, raspberries and strawberries. 4. 2 Big Brown mushrooms with feta Documenting my experience for anyone else who want to try a 36 hour fast. Nothing special to do and easy! @ Elize58 .. Yes .. definitely make you more food concious. Thought I was going to pig out breaking my fast but not really bothered what I am going to eat today. Why undo what you have done the last 36 hours?!
