Dang, I wish I had paid more attention. Yesterday was my 1 year anniversary of getting started on my healthy lifestyle. Aug 19, 2014 ============= Weight: 265 (probably more) Ha1C: 12.3 (those with diabetes know how bad that is) BP: 150/94 Total Chol: 243 HDL 42 LDL 145 Tri 279 Doctor put me on insulin, blood pressure med, cholesterol meds August 19, 2015 (everything but weight is from July 24) ========================================================= Weight: 195 Ha1C: 5.8 BP: 124/76 Total Chol: 149 HDL 65 LDL 76 Tri 39 Doctor took me off everything between the 2014 and 2015 dates. Last to go was the diabetes meds (victoza). I was off the insulin fairly quickly. The latest lipid panel (cholesterol etc) was 4 months off those medications. On top of that, I had a awesome run last night. It was 77 degrees in Dallas at 6:30 last night. Last week when we did the same run it was 98. I ran one of my better times. Thought a before and after would be good as well. The after is from March, but it is close enough. Y'all have a great day.

Congratulations on a job very well done. I had an a1c of 8.8 in Aug 2013 when I started. My entire blood panel was off. Thing to be high were really low, low were very high. I was on bp meds but no diabetes meds as this was just discovered wuth this blood panel ordered by my new doc. Six months later, my weight was down 50 pounds, my a1c is 5.4. Cholesterol & triglycerides perfectly normal. Bp is good too so my doc is going to lower the dosage when I see her in Oct. I still have 40 pounds to go so I'm still attending my dietician run weight management program. Some health challenges have interfered with keeping my exercise program on track, doctors orders, so I'm swimming & walking more. I have maintained g or one year & am now in a push to lose the last 40. I cannot believe how my much life has changed for the better. I have to reach 64 years of age to learn how to eat! Old dogs CAN learn new tricks, ha! Again, CONGRATULATIONS. ...you look amazing & I know you feel the same. We're in this to win this...you sir ARE A WINNER!!

That is great! You are doing great! I just got off my Diabetes meds and BP meds last month. I am still on my Cholesterol meds for now. Just got to get under that 200 mark still. Right now I goal is 220 pounds and I am 5.1 pounds away from that.

I want to be you when I 'grow up' on FS!! That is so AWESOME . . . amazing how some seemingly 'simple' (and NON-invasive, non-medicinal) changes can so dramatically alter our health!!

Way to go!! This is very inspiring as my fiance is a type 2 diabetic and is up to about 8 pills a day, he wants off of them, so we started our healthier lifestyle in late May of this year. I hope he can see these same results! (he was a drinker, and has been sober for 2 months now :)

vickiledford - I was a pretty big drinker for many years. I quit about 11 years ago. I was convinced my friends would be put off by the "not party guy"; none of them even noticed till I pointed it about 6 months later. The thing that kept me "on the wagon" was the following thought - "If I think I NEED a drink, I probably shouldn't solve my problem that way. If I don't NEED it, then why the hell should I do it". By that logic, you should not be drinking. Couple that with the fact that I don't do anything in moderation (food, alcohol, exercise, etc) it was a recipe for trouble. I am much happier being obsessive about exercise and good diet. Tell your boy best of luck and to hang in there. He can do this.

I'm in the same boat as you were a year ago. It's inspiring to see that it can be done. Way to go I don't know you but I'm proud of you. I hope I have the same story a year from now.
