Good Morning All!

Was musing about the different WOE's we have and found that a lot of us on different plans are really eating similarly. Labels can be misleading. For example, a Paleo meal may be identical to an Atkins meal.

I have never considered a ketogenic diet (feeling it too extreme). Yet when I entered my info into an online Keto Calculator, the resulting guidelines are the same as "My Plan" (when I have my best results). Here are those numbers:

Calories 1348
Carbohydrates 11% (approx. 40 grams)
Protein 26% (approx. 90 grams)
Fat 61%

Diet Calendar Entry for 14 May 2015:
1292 kcal Fat: 75.91g | Prot: 92.18g | Carb: 52.00g.   Breakfast: Coffee, Atkins Frozen Farmhouse-Style Sausage Scramble, Coffee, Great Value Half & Half. Lunch: Atkins Frozen Mexican-Style Chicken and Vegetables. Dinner: Cub Foods Ground Beef (93% Lean / 7% Fat), Wegmans Black Beans Canned, Great Value All Natural Sour Cream, Salsa, Old El Paso Taco Seasoning Mix, Lettuce Salad with Assorted Vegetables, Tomatoes, Lindsay Large Black Olives. Snacks/Other: Coffee, Land O'Lakes Traditional Half & Half. more...

Thanks BuffyBear for the informative info. I'm concentrating on the numbers of calories at max 1400 for the moment. let's hope that works! Still trying to decide if carbs or fat is what I need to cut down on. Hopefully my body will guide me.

I used a keto calculator this morning as well....odd, isn't it? And I was amazed at the similarity between Adkins and Ketogenic diets. I was looking for Fat Bomb recipes and stubbled across it. I liked seeing how your can tweak the percentages a bit to increase your odds of losing...especially the percentages for maintaining. It seems that I was more in line with maintaining guidelines for quite a while instead of on a path to losing and just by my changing the percentages I experienced some losses. It was interesting to read about and see.

I always thought that Adkins was a ketogenic diet. My own eclectic plan fits both a Mediterranean and several anti-inflammatory plans. It's funny Buffy some of my grandkids, not all, love real food and wish their Mom would cook more like me. Some think chicken nuggets and take out pizza are the perfect foods.

Atkins IS a ketogenic diet, it's based on the principle that once you don't give your body carbs to consume, it will enter ketosis state and will start consuming its own fats.
