So... a LONG night for me last night. I spent ~ 5 hours at the vet last night. My best buddy (Goldie - profile picture) required emergency surgery last night after it was discovered that she had a large mass in or near her spleen. The vet indicated it could burst at any time due to it's size, and that would be the beginning of the end.

Surgery began around midnight, and finished a few hours later... Dr called me around 3 a.m. indicating things went very well, and she was doing great. With some cautious optimism, the Dr indicated she only removed the one large mass... and did not see any surrounding indications or problems. The pathology will take 3 - 7 days depending on the workload at the lab. After I get that prognosis, the mass could be found as benign with many more years for her to live... OR... sigh... I simply cannot imagine the "OR situation"... One of the vets we spoke to indicated it was a 50-50 situation, the surgeon placed it more like a 25-75 situation favoring the BAD potential prognosis... SIGH...

Going to be a tough couple weeks for me... :(

Thanks in advance for any good thoughts coming her way from my FS Buddy support team ...

That is a very hard thing to go through and then wait for results. Will be praying for you!

I am sorry to hear of the wait you will have now to learn about Goldie's prognosis. Remember, they have sophisticated treatments for pets these days - like people. I am a cat lover but understand the deep love for your baby!

You have all my sympathy! My Corbin Bean is my very best friend and as he just turned eight I know the next few years are going to be hard ones. Enjoy every moment you can! Corbin and I will be thinking of you and Goldie!

My family and I went through a similar situation with our german shepard. She acted strange all day so my mother rushed her to a pet hospital, we found out her intestines were all twisted up and she needed immediate surgery she had a slim chance to live. She made it through to live 6 more years with us. I know exactly how you feel. It is really tough to sit and wait. But like HCB said, they have great technology for pets like they do for people when it comes to treatments and surgery! Praying for you and Goldie.

My heart is with you and all my prayers for Goldie. If the worst happens, you may still have her for quite some time. One of my beloved kitties had an intestinal sarcoma for quite some time and was kept comfortable with pain meds and had a happy life until they no longer worked. Then we went to the Rainbow Bridge together but, of course, I could not cross with him. I will see him again someday. But for now we will think only positive thoughts and hope that tumor is benign. In the meantime, we are all here for you and sending positive energy your way.

Thanks EVERYONE for your thoughts and prayers... they mean a LOT to me... Some from existing FS Buddies, and some from NEW Buddies!!! I brought Goldie home from the hospital yesterday, and she was VERY happy to see me and be home... Under the circumstances of an at BEST 50/50 good prognosis, it's very difficult to remain positive... But, I try. TGIF Everyone... and WONDERFUL to have such GREAT support here! THANKS to all!!!
