Maguscanook's Journal, 30 April 2022

I would love to hear from FS members who have made significant health gains by losing weight and exercising. It is so encouraging for me to hear that others are reducing/eliminating or avoiding medication‘s and enjoying their lives much more. I find that I have more flexibility, energy and happiness from my weight loss thus far. The most important thing (for me) is to further reduce my BP and lower cholesterol. Looking good in skinny jeans will certainly be a plus side effect😉!!

I dropped my cholesterol by 16 points, which I was happy with. Not sure how much was from weight loss and how much from cutting down on animal products

I've probably said what I'll say here before. I was in really tough shape when I retired in 2002 @ 62. I'd been a tug master for 30 odd years and led a pretty sedentary life along with a way too much booze. I was diagnosed with osteoporosis, osteophytosis (spurs) and stenosis. I learned at one point that not moving around causes calcium loss. Anyways I was in a lot of pain. We live in the country with a wood stove. I would take my pickup into the logged off areas and buck and chop and load an bring home the wood. Then i joined a gym in 2007/8 and went three times a week. The pain gradually abated to the point where I have been pain free for 5 years or so. Oh yes I did lose around 50 lbs also. From May to sometimes November i swim just about every day for a couple of hours. I feel I have reversed the osteo problems. A lady at the gym told me that her doctor had said "you've proven us wrong the osteo has reversed itself.

Writingywo, cholesterol is something I want to check too. Your drop is inspiring. Allan, you have certainly contradicted many people who say your health is pretty much written in stone after 50! Losing weight combined with (push through the pain) exercise has rewritten your future. Way to go both of you🌈

I have energy, I rest better, and the doctor took me off 1 of my BP meds , and I can't tell you when it's gonna rain anymore by the aches in my joints. To God be all the glory and I thank him for giving me the courage to change for the better.

Good morning Buenita☀️ what a blessing to get off one of your BP meds.! I truly believe God is guiding me on my weight loss journey at this time. Although I get hungry some evenings it has not been as difficult as I feared. Have a great day☀️☀️🇨🇦

It's all true, I went from struggling to tie my shoes to somersaults...ok, that's not entirely true, but with dedication the benefits will show sooner than you think.

Oh boy, Dark Knight, I know what you mean. It’s easier to tie my shoes now that I don’t have to bend over a huge tummy😁. (now it’s just a biggish tummy!)

Hi there! Good to hear people are doing changes for good (health) reasons! I'm trying to find balance between my daily intake vs body needs. Fed up of my weght yoyoing between each ski seasons! So my goal this summer will be to maintain my weight by just eating enough, not easy when you enjoy food as much as I do. 😉 Wish you achieve your goals and cut on medecine! Eastern canuck

Steph Bern -- I'm more into this for health than for weight loss. I enjoy food greatly, but I find so many healthy foods to enjoy! I feel like there's this weird societal attitude that the only foods that are supposed to taste good are loaded with fat, sugar, and salt

I'm losing weight because I just discovered that 90% of Canadians who have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease die of liver cancer and I don't want to continue down that particular path 🙂 I'm actually really excited about this new chapter of my life and looking forward to eating more healthy every day
