Well I was all geared up to run my first 5k this coming weekend (11/15), then found out my girls will likely have a basketball game at the same time. I am going to support the kids. Depending on the team (JV or JV2) that the girls are finally assigned to, and then the timing of their resultant game, there is small chance I can still make my 5k. However, it has really taken the wind out of my sails.

On the upside, I fully ran (most would consider it a jog) my first 5k on the treadmill Friday night. No walking. My heart was going like a frightened rabbit; that heart rate was probably not productive for weight loss, cardio building, and likely my general health. However, it was good mentally. The last time I ran 3.1 miles was more than 20 years ago.

I will beat this wreck I have let my body become back into shape. I need to start doing some strength training. I want to get some muscle tone back. Additionally, it will assist in cranking the metabolism. My plan starting this week is to do cardio (bike, swim, or jog) 3 times a week and strength training on alternate days (2 times a week); the weekends I leave open to chance. IF the girls basketball game allows the 5k, then I will modify the schedule to reduce workouts Thursday and Friday.
