flaxseed's Journal, 11 April 2009

Had quite a shock and a revelation today. I have been looking at all the before and after pictures posted in journals and as I haven't got any photos of me I decided it was time to start. OH GOOD GRIEF! They are awful - fat fat fat. Having lost over 100 pounds and with some new clothes and compliments from people I haven't seen for a while,I was feeling quite good about myself but my mental image of me is obviously way out of line. When I'd got over the shock horror moment I started to think. People who have anorexia have a distorted body image and see themselves as being fatter than they are so perhaps I have a distorted image of me only the other way round. Maybe thats why I've been overweight all my life. I'll just have to keep getting my OH to keep taking photos until I can "see me" as I really am. I think I shall keep these photos in a dark cupboard and not let them see the light of day until I get a piccy I'm happy with. This has dfinitely spurred me on to greater efforts!

I have a black bikini that I put on every few months and take photos, front, back & side. I can see the changes, even though they're slight. Then they go, as you say, in a dark cupboard where nobody can see them! lol Keep it up!

in high school i worked out alot and was thin. i was put on a combo of meds that caused massive weight gain. long off of those meds but there were habits i developed that has kept a big part of the weight on. i have told my husband before... inside i am not a fat girl. i am still buff and hot in my head. it has led to a confidence many heavy people dont have but i suffer the same shock when i look at pics. i dont know who i am looking at because its not the me i see in my head. it makes weight loss hard too.... in short... i live in denial i am fat.

You are gorgeous! Anytime you doubt your progress, just take a look at your weight chart. You're a perfect example of how to get it done!

Good idea to keep having pictures taken so you get used to it! It's hard to make peace with our image. Just remember, you don't exactly look like a picture. You are 3-dimensional, animated and have a personality that adds to the whole package! You are beautiful!
