HealthyBabs's Journal, 21 January 2011

I decided to change my goal weight, not that it really matters in the large scheme of things, but I found it was getting too depressing to think I have so very far to go. I have been hovering around this same weight for so long without much scale movement and I hate it!
Sorry I am not more upbeat tonight, but this winter weather is really starting to get to me. I feel like a hermit all bundled up and trying to keep warm. Oh My God....we have 2 more months of this!!!

Ha! We're shooting for the same star, my dear...I had mine set to 200 for the longest time & told myself I'd hang out in maintenance for a month or 2 once I got there. But realistically, there's no way in H-E-double-hockey-sticks I'd sit at 200 & not try to get to Onederland! We can do it!!!

Kat-I feel like the goose at the back of the formation right now. HONK-HONK! Did you see the pic I posted on FB today? Pixie- Please make spring come faster than that if you can!

Today in Chicago, the high was 7 degrees. The low was -3. Plus we have about an inch of ice on the ground, with a dusting of snow to hide it. Walking the dog is a nightmare. I hate this. I try to concentrate on the fact that it must burn more calories to stay warm in this weather. Keep the faith, Babs -- no goal is too ambitious for you when you have friends in the same boat.

Hermiones - You are right, I think it is just this nasty winter dragging me down. Funny because I usually like winter, but this is rediculous...and to think I moved back here from CA after all those years (19)...what was I thinking???? No really, I love New England and it is home for me so I am very glad to be back.

Thanks Bake - Now I know why bears hibernate, they go to sleep and then wake up when it is all over! Can't we? Gearing up for another snow storm on Tuesday.

Um, ok...this morning it was -20 F here. By evening it had warmed to a balmy -1 F so my whole family went to the gym! My 12 yr old was on Daddy Duty to make sure he didn't walk more than 1 lap of the track & she did great, lol. Oh, & you guys are a bunch of whiners. ;P

Kat, did you move up here or something??? Thats a normal temp this time of year lol althought today was super warm it stayed between 8 and 5 degrees F which is unnatural lol Babs I was wrong there is 56 days until spring so its closer than you think.

K, did I just hear you say we're a bunch of winners? We're expecting another 5"-7" on top of the 9" we have, coming in sometime tomorrow. I'm just too old for this. Yes . . . I want some cheese with that whine!!! LOL.

Johanne, at least cheese is low-carb, LOL!! @pixi, no, I left the Great White North for the Great White Midwest years ago. It does not appear I left the weather. We've had a good bit of snow this year - record-setting, in fact - & I'd rather have that than this "too cold to snow" business that's going on right now. Not really complaining though, I still prefer this to excessive heat...you can pretty much always do SOMETHING to warm up, like put on more clothes or something. When it's too hot, even if you strip you just end up nekked & hot. I'll take snuggling under blankets any day! ;)

I never really thought past five pounds when I was losing. Once I got those five pounds off I would renew my goal. sometimes knowing that you got 50 or more pounds to lose or your very heavy it is very wise to not say lets you weigh 260 lbs and you want 140 lbs well DUH I think thats a failure goal right there but if you say ok I am 260 and want to be 255 now thats a small measurable attainable goal. Once 255 arrives make it a goal to get to 250 etc. Thats how I did it.

Giz -I think I am going to take your suggestion and change my goals to 10 lb goals. It is really discouraging having the goal so far into the future and I really don't see much movement. I think with 10 lb goals it will be more realistic for me that the goals are attainable. Gonna change that right now!

I do a mix of both, if that makes any sense. I keep my FS goal at 199, but in practice I'm really shooting for that next milestone, which is either a multiple of 5 or a new decade. I don't think my ticker would be as meaningful to me if I kept changing the endpoint, that's just me tho.

Babs I think thats a good idea. For me nothing ever stays the same and gradually working on mini amounts of weight to lose is a lot more encouraging. What if the person needs to lose 200 lbs and weighs 420? That ticker will be there for a life time it seems for that person! Try this out Babs and it may work for you or maybe not. You wont know until you try!

I liked the one huge goal :). It made me feel like I had climbed Mt Everest when I finally made it. Yes, it takes a long time. But for me that was even more motivating- I just kept telling myself "I am going to do this no matter how long it takes.". And that felt very empowering! Making that huge goal after 18 months of hard work was the best feeling in the world :)

Kate it is the best feeling in the world! I had mini goals but yet always looking at the big goal motivated me to keep moving!
