I am struggling. First of all I want to make it clear that I am not making excuses, I believe that I am responsible for every pound I have gained and lost. I just don't know how to handle things sometimes.

My husband and I watch our grandkids, ages 8 and 2, sometimes for days or even weeks. I am not looking for sympathy, but the reason we take care of the children for some extended time periods is because their Dad has health problems that started 2 1/2 years ago and he has been in the hospital several times. The hospital is over 2 hours away. It's been very hard on all of them and we love them all so very much, we are very happy to help.

Now for my problem...for various reasons, not just having the grandkids here but also personal problems, I go off my food plan for days or weeks. Again, I am responsible for this. But I am feeling very depressed with only losing 7 lbs in 1 1/2 months. I have lost some of the same pounds several times. I have a lot more to lose, a lot more, and I can't keep up this up and down trend. I don't know how to handle the bad food times.

For example, we have a wedding to go to tomorrow. There will be lots of food and drinks for everyone. I don't know what to do. Wedding food in this part of the country is a really good meal, lots of starches. Then next week is Thanksgiving, also really good food mostly starches. If I eat at both of these occasions it will be another couple weeks before I show a loss.

Sorry if this sounds bad but I suffer from depression/anxiety pretty bad and I am really down right now. Please excuse me, I probably shouldn't have shared this especially today. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR SYMPATHY

It's good to share things and vent. My daughter suffers from anxiety. She is learning how to deal with it, but it's not easy. This is a difficult time of year. You have lost 7 pounds in 6 weeks. That is awesome. With all that you have been dealing with, you have still lost weight. Most people only lose about a pound a week so be proud of that (you are in the norm). You can do two things. You can try and maintain through the holidays or you can keep doing what you are doing. If you lose 4 pounds, that will be great. This is a life long journey, so if it takes 3 months or a or year, you still have to live life. Do the best you can and keep going. If you don't exercise and can, start. It really helps you get through the holidays without gaining and it helps with stress. If your depression get's really bad, go get help. Great job on your loss and good luck!

People hate the scale. They hate it, I know I do. But I will tell you this. It is impossible to gain a ton of weight if you get on the scale every day. 1. You know you will be getting on the scale so it will change your food choices. 2. If that number starts creeping up, you will stop quicker than if you weight until you kNOW the number is up. Again, no one likes the scale. But if you commit to it on a daily basis during the holidays, there is no way you will stick with the bad eating days. THink about it? Its normally AFTER these bad eating days or week that we avoid the scale. After good weeks we are more than happy to hop on it! I know it sux, but daily weigh-ins will stop the weeks of bad food. Probably down to one day!

Thank you Suzi and Sigmablue, I truly appreciate your input. What you said really does help. It is a hard time of the year for me for a few reasons other than the depression. My dad passed away in December and my baby brother's birthday is coming up next week, he passed away this last April at the age of 52. It's just a hard month. Anyway, enough of that, hoping you have a Joyous Christmas and a Blessed New Year.
