Over the past year and a half I've been trying to get off my blood pressure medication by altering my diet. I think I might finally be able to get off the blood pressure medication. Over the past three years I've reduced my medication from one pill a night to 1/4 pill per night. My doctor told me I could try not taking the medication as long as I continue to monitor my blood pressure. Since the beginning of August I've managed to reduce my average daily sodium intake from about 2000 mg to 1500 mg. The last blood pressure reading I've had that was higher than 120 over 80 was on August 22 when I recorded 126/77. Since then I've been averaging 115/72 without taking any medication. I believe the sodium reduction has played a major role. After all, the medication I've been taking reduces sodium in the system so reducing sodium intake helps replace the medication.
