Johanne's Journal, 02 November 2010

I don't get my Social Security allotment until tomorrow and no food stamps until the 11th. My cupboard is getting a bit bare, so the rations are pared down a little for the last few days. But, it's another sparkling, crisp fall day out, I feel terrific, I'm in SMALLER PANTS and life is great! I'm a Democrat in a Republican state, so my vote won't count for much, but I'm going out and casting it anyway. LOL.

I just have to say I love your positive attitude! While a lot of people would complain about their situation, you find the brighter side of it =)

I love life. I'm just happy to wake up every morning still in it. I'm so lucky I enjoy the little things and I rejoice in that. I hope you have a lovely day, and, whatever your political leanings, get out and vote. It's one of our greatest duties. :-)

Wow, you definitely just gave a little perk to my day. I'm going to vote today. It's my first time in my new state and I'm looking forward to it.

What a great positive attitude during hard times. Try to be resourceful. When I was a kid, we were pretty poor, and there were five children. We had a big vegetable garden and kept chickens and rabbits, but everyone did that back then. Also my dad hunted, so I knew what venison tasted like before I tested beef. I also got used to spitting the birdshot out of the meat of game birds (tastes just like chicken!). I guess we were just po' white trash. I don't think we ever resorted to roadkill medley - that I remember. I don't know if you're allowed to fish, but fishing is a great way to get extra food. High in protein too. If rations, get too scarce, don't be afraid to talk to your local churches. They are usually willing to help you over the hard times.

going blue in a red state you vote counts to me! Voting is so important, it also makes me feel not guilty when I complain. I hate hearing about the cupboards, but you have a great attitude, I wish you didn't have to worry about things like that, BIG HUG!

I vote for Smaller Pants! I need to get out there and do my civic duty, but I wish we had some worthy candidates. Johanne, I hope you will reach out for help like Runesinger suggested. I bet a lot of churches do have a community pantry for times like these.

There are some local sources, but there are also many people worse off than I am, and donations are not what they used to be. I feel guilty when I use the local pantries. The other issue is, now that I have had to go gluten free and salt light, they don't have a lot that I can use. Besides, it gives me an excuse to make and eat corn bread! LOL. @coco, I hate our choice for Fed. Representative, but his opponent is much worse. How Skelton can claim he's a Democrat is beyond me. He is extremely conservative. At least I like my candidate for the Senate. You are all very kind and it's great to have you for friends. (((Hugs!)))
