Balance. It's what I strive for. It's what my body desires. This past weekend wasn't about balance at all haha.

I had drill this weekend, so I had to eat on base. At the food court, I opted for chicken strips, mashed potatoes with gravy, and a biscuit. Strike one. After work, I ended up heading out to a local Tavern who was having their 4 year celebration and had LOTS of rum and diet cokes. We're talking ounces up the wazoo. Strike 2. Then after recovering from the night before, I chowed down on a BLT and fries which then caused a massive carb overload and I dozed off for a good hour or two. Strike 3. Dinner, luckily, was tame. Had some lettuce wrapped burgers and some carne asada chili. Exercise wise I did nothing over the weekend. I feel like shit.

So today, despite this weird ass weather front coming in and giving Northern Cali some rain, if it's just some drizzle, I'm tearing up some trails on the bike. If it's muddy, so be it. If it's heavy rain? Ok, I'll concede and get my sweat on at home. But that's the only deterrent!

1.5 weeks until our nation's birthday, folks! I'm planning on camping in some redwoods and doing some crazy 17 mile mt bike loop. This badboy is 10 miles up and 7 miles back down. It's listed as strenuous (grasshopper loop trail), but hey, why not challenge one's self right! So man oh man, am I looking forward to getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and heading up north to relax and be in nature!

Any fun plans for you?

Hey, healthy alternatives on most bases aren't always easy to find! If nothing else, all that"non-balance" will make you look forward to tearing up your trails even more! ;) I currently can't exercise (per doc's orders...hope that will change one day, though!), so I live vicariously through you and your wonderful bike excursions and campings, details and pics, heh. Am just having a small BBQ here with the three of us...family time and all that. Here's wishing you a happy and FUN Fourth!

Roger that, Raven! I'll post up visuals of my adventures, large and small! Aside from sharing, I'm hoping that some pics may inspire others to get out there and enjoy somthe outdoors as opposed to being in a gym all the time. Your 4th sounds great! Nothing better than some tasty grilled food and friends and family :D

I'm a bit jealous of your camping plans. I've always wanted to see the redwoods. Photos please! Our son will be in Delaware with his grandparents on the 4th, so my husband and I are planning a trail running day at a state park. We'll run in the morning, have a picnic, rest, go for a swim and then run again later in the day, as long as the weather cooperates.

I think your plans sound just as good, Michaele! Redwoods are AMAZING. It's really wild to stand next to these behemoths! I'll be sure to post up some good pics after the adventure up there. I actually just ordered a camera I can mount to my helmet when biking, so hopefully I'll have some video of riding through the redwoods as well :D

Sounds like a fun 4th for you!! Hubby and I are going to stay with some friends at a campground for a couple days and then spend the weekend out fishing on the lakes.. Then we have our family "4th of July" picnic the following weekend!
