O Plateau: Thou Art my Nemesis!!!

Ok, it's official now, I am in Plateau-land--again! I've been hovering on the fringes of 157 lbs all week long, and despite mixing it up over the week with low points, high points, low-impact workouts, hi-impact cardio, weights, skipping carbs, adding carbs, increasing proteins, lowering salt, drinking 3 L of water, etc. etc., I have not budged much beyond 157 on the scale!

One day I was teased with the quick glimpse of 156.6, but it went away, not to be seen anymore!

In other news, thank you all for the great advise from yesterday. Your point is well-taken, Points V. Carbs is a bad idea for a competition...so, I am going to drop out.

However, I will continue shooting for low points (around 20-22 daily, and I'm sure the flex points will get used up in at least 1 dinner out). I am gonna see if my buddies will be up for an exercise-challenge, instead...that does sound like what I really need to up-the-ante on!

Mindful of yesterday's advise, I did up the points on yesterday's meal-intake, and it as follows:

Coffee with cream (1)
Omelette with eggbeaters (2), ff cream cheese (0.5), and 6 almonds + 1 walnut (2)
Coffee w cream (1)
1 protein bar (3)
2 plums (2)
1 more protein bar (3)
Subway 6 inch veggie delite on whole wheat bread (4) w/ cheese (1), honey mustard dressing and little bit of chipotle (1)
3rd protein bar (3)

Total: 23.5

Three protein bars in a day is definitely unusual for me, but I was rather stressed working on an issue later in the day, while I was sitting at a cafe. Thus, in order to avoid temptations of the baked goods there, I instead munched on a couple of plums and used the protein bar to satisfy the chocolate craving and complement the coffee!! I also felt lazy to cook last night, and decided to get the subway sandwich (also hoping that adding some carbs to the mix might kick up my slowed metabolism)...however, no change today :(

About workouts, I didn't go to the gym owing to that stressful issue of last night which had kept me occupied on my computer until 7.30 pm or so, so instead, did an assorted workout at home, as follows:

Workout: 12 x 2 tricep push backs (5 pds), 12 x 2 tricep lifts (12 pds), 12 x 3 bicep curls (13.5 pds), 12 x 3 lateral raises (13.5 pds), 20 squats, 24 lunges. No cardio!

Well, today being 08.08.08 should be my namesake triple-whammy lucky day!! So, dare I hope for something amazing to happen today? Hmmmm...heck, I'll settle for getting out of my plateau, or getting at least one of the deadlines met with today. The weekend seems to have a chock-full of activities and friends keep buggin me to go out and play, but I don't feel like doing anything, being weighed down by these never-ending deadlines!!!! Everything is taking super-long, and I'm annoyed at myself for being super-slow!!! Oh well!

Quit griping! I'm gonna MAKE today into a LUCKY DAY, and COMPLETE this one deadline hovering on my head!!! And I'll plan on going out tomorrow night--deadlines be damned!

Sorry about all the stress! And you don't neeeed no stinkin' LUCK! Put on some nice pointy stilletos and kick Mr. Plateau into oblivion! I didn't even realize today was 08-08-08 right away - just so no-one reads that as ate-ate-ate ;) Hey, maybe those subway dressings had tons of sodium and it's just water you're holding onto. Enjoy all your successes today with completing deadlines, healthy eating and exercise!

Well, since you've tried most everything I can think of to kick those nasty plateaus, I have just one other suggestion - eat more. I don't mean vary your points, I mean just plain add more points to every day. I hear it all the time in my weight watcher's meetings. You have to eat to lose weight. And if you have been very active physically throughout your journey, then your body by this point will be burning more calories than ever before (especially whenever you are just sitting around). When I eat a solid 26 pts/day and use 15-20 of my weekly points I can pretty much guarantee a loss of 2 pounds (As a reference, my calculated points should only be 23 pts/day). Since you've tried everything else, maybe adding 2-3 pts/day to your daily points allowance will do the trick! Whatever happens, just remember this (it's what I keep telling myself whenever the numbers on the scale don't seem to move - or worse, move in the wrong direction) "As long as I don't quit, I can never fail!" You're gonna do great!

Plateauland - I've taken up residence it seems but, I must admit, it's all my own fault. You, on the other hand, seem to have been kidnapped and thrown in here against your will. Not fair! Just keep plucking away. And remember that all work and no play makes 08 a dull girl so go ahead and have one night off this weekend. The work will still be there when you get home :( I'd sign up for an exercise challenge with ya but I think I will have my hands full with the weight lifting challenge and dealing with my company next week. But after the 19th I'll be free! Here's to a lucky triple 8 day all around!

One trick that seems to work really well is to make your food cut-off point 6 or 6:30pm. Eat a good dinner, a little dessert if you want, and then be done for the night. There's something about really giving your body time to digest the food you've eaten before going to bed that seems to help a lot. Granted, you're hungry for breakfast almost right away in the morning, but that's ok. good luck!

An exercise challenge would be fun, I like those and seem to work better since there are so MANY diets and exercise is the same in the long run!
