Djburney's Journal, 23 April 2013

Oh my goodness, this is hard...dieting is way easier than figuring out why I overeat in the first place. It hurts, it's scary, it's overwhelming, it's confusing, but in the end, it's the only way I'll ever get off the diet see-saw. I picked up a book today that I haven't read in years by Debbie Ford called The Right Questions. I copied this from the chapter called Waking Up From Autopilot:

When you get up in the morning, before you begin your day:

• Take a moment of silence and meditation, and give yourself permission to have all that you desire.

• Tell yourself that it is safe for you to fulfill your heart’s wishes

• Remember where you want to go, why you want to go there, and what will be waiting for you when you arrive. Allow yourself to imagine how you will feel, how you will look, and how others will be inspired by your when your vision is fulfilled.

• Think about all the opportunities you will have during the coming day to make choices that support the fulfillment of your goals and dreams.

Yup. The actual losing weight is not too hard, once you know WHY you gained it. It sometimes requires quite a bit of soul searching and self-realization. It takes that we open up and dig deep. I'm happy to see that you're taking this journey - it's gonna help you SO MUCH, even if it's truly a scary ride...

Lovely sentiment - it truly IS about one day at a time.

Wow, that's deep. So true! Myself, I figured (in my old way of thinking) that I was the only one being nice to me, so I gave myself loads of every food my heart desired. Now I be nice to me the right way, and I think this passage you quoted is a gem. Thanks for sharing! :)

WOW, this class is digging deep! I thought it was interesting how they are having you separate your self from your body... Hmmm. My old voice teacher from years ago did her Doctoral Thesis on SINGERS and this very same problem. If the voice is your instrument, you are identified by it... If our body is first seen, as the voice is first heard, how do ya separate it. I could separate my self worth from my body, but when viewed by others, that is the huge challenge in our wacky heads. Your on a real cool path now!

We have a lecture discussion on Tuesday night, we do some homework with what we've learned the next 48 hours, and then have a small group therapy session on Thursday night. I wasn't clicking with my small group, so my therapist moved me to the earlier group, and talk about going deep! We got way down into some really painful places, but I felt so good last night afterwards. It's working for me, and I am so grateful. I've not been white-knuckling it, I've just been eating and exercising to fulfill my heart's wishes. It's just really incredible. I'm treating myself the way I treated my babies, only giving them what they need, always looking out for their best interests, and always always always loving them no matter what.

I love your comment: "I'm treating myself the way I treated my babies, only giving them what they need, always looking out for their best interests, and always always always loving them no matter what." That's something I certainly need to work on - thanks for your thoughts.
