Home from vacation, I'm not recording my weight today. I can't possibly have gained that much weight. I'll check it again tomorrow.

Do you believe in a coincidence? I wouldn't except that I have to many of them happening to me! Yesterday, I was flying home from Oregon and ended up sitting next to a physician who specializes in weight loss. We had a wonderful conversation all the way home, and she was exactly what I needed to motivate me to get back on track after my vacation. She suggested that I do two days of just protein to get my insulin levels back to normal to eliminate cravings.

She also had an interesting suggestion for increasing muscle tone and reducing muscle loss while losing weight. She said that protein is very important for this, and that three times a day, a person should have a 30-gram serving of lean protein, eaten within a half hour so your body gets the full effect of it (not nibbling on a protein bar or sipping on a protein drink). That and light exercise is really all you need. She feels that people work out too intensely while they are dieting, creating more hunger without really helping with weight loss. A good walk each day is all we need while losing weight.

Any way that was a coincidence? I think not! Now, off to have some scrambled eggs...

That sounds like a good plan of action regarding protein. I am on board fully with protein...when I have protein I feel better and honestly, my diet of protein, veggies and fruits has me feeling fantastic. No more grains/starchy carbs for me..! Welcome back from vacation.

Thanks, both of you! I'm really pretty hungry this afternoon, see what carbs will do? I'm almost never hungry unless it is time to eat. I'm following the doctor's advice and just eating protein today, which if you are a meat-lover sounds good, but it's really not so easy. Erin, we should meet for an iced tea sometime! You too, Gabe, except you are sort of far away!

Yeah, NYC to Arizona is a haul...however, I did stop by Phoenix on my way to Cabo San Lucas...nice airport.
