08willbegreat's Journal, 20 March 2008

So, last night a friend from out of town came over ostensibly to crash over for the night--however, she showed up at midnight, and of course, we stayed up chatting for a bit--and next thing I know, it's 3.15 am!!

And I still hadn't prepared all my work for next day's work. The next day (i.e., today), I was supposed to have a 9 am meeting and a very long, and impossibly busy day ahead, followed by a winetasting event that would mean I wouldn't get home until 10 or 11 pm. So my goal was to try and get some workout BEFORE I went to work, and thus, get it out of the way. However, with such a late night last night, I just couldn't bring myself to go workout this morning. And then the whole day has been predictibly busy.

So while I did take time to have lunch (the Healthy Choice frozen panini I'd taken from home), I didn't have much else on me. So, not much water, and no snacks either. Thus, come 6.30 pm or so, I was getting pretty hungry, and when I arrived at the winetasting event, I just had to eat. THe options there were cheeese and crackers--so I had quite a few (probably 10-11 water crackers and 6-7 pieces of cheese, and six tasting-pours of wine (i.e., probably 1-2 glasses total).

At this point, my resistance was down (thanks to the wine!), and I needed REAL food! So I went with some friends to the restaurant next door, and thank god, but I did manage to find some healthy choices, i.e., a cup of lentil soup and a salad with fat free dressing. That worked out well after the wine and cheese binge. However, it was 11.30 pm by the time I came home, so no work out today, and water intake has been pretty low.

For some reason I have been feeling bloated all day today (this was BEFORE the cheese-binge), so I don't know if that's becuase of the low water-intake or the recent meals of the last 2-3 days that have been pretty much the procssed frozen meals (Healthy Choice sandwiches). Also, the working out has been pretty poor over the last couple of days.

I'm starting to feel a little worried about this slowly-creeping-up derailment. I really need to get back in control from tomorrow. As a point of redemption, I picked up milk on my way home, so I can have my healthy (and filling!) cereal in the morning. That'll start off the day well, and then I can have some healthy, high-fiber, and non-processed foods later in the day (although I haven't cooked anything, so I'll have to rely on pickign up lunch from somewhere--maybe Subway?) And hope to go work out in the morning to get started well (I really hope I can---I've been so lax on that count lately!!).

Meals for the day:
Breakfast: (my usual cereal not available as no milk in the house!): 1 pc. of laughing cow cheese (2) and 1 wasa cracker (0.5), and 1 banana (2)
Lunch: 1 Healthy Choice panini (6)
Snack: 2 cups coffee with creamers (2)
Dinner: winetasting: 2 glasses wine (4), 10 crackers (10?), and few pieces cheeses (10?)
1 plate salad with fat free french dressing (2) and 1 cup lentil soup (3-4)

Total points: 42.5 (yikes!!!!!!!)

What do I do now???!!!

Wow - what a day! OK - first thing is don't panic. I actually think the body needs the odd bad day to keep the metabolism going, so think of it as a good thing you did. I think you should look on the positive side - at least you remained controlled enough to record everything! You now need to put it behind you straight away - no hesitations - just get back on track and you will limit any damage. Good luck!!

Totally agree with Lucybell33! Isn't that what those "free points" are for any way? Your chart looks amazing. Don't sweat it or for that matter do sweat it and work off those extra points tonight ;) HAve a great day and a happy diet!

42 points is not a bad day especially if you had flex points available to cover the extras. The flex points are there for precisely this reason - they allow you to have a splurge or two every week and you are NOT supposed to feel guilty about it! We have been conditioned to think that eating for enjoyment is a bad thing but we need to throw all those old thought patterns away and learn to look forward to and completely enjoy our splurges. The only bad thing about your day was not the food consumption but the guilt! Guilt is the enemy of any healthy eating plan. So banish those thoughts and enjoy your day. You are doing great!

Peer pressure is hard -- like when your friend 'visits' between 12 and 3. And you like hanging out with her and want to be a good hostess, but on the other hand you want to say, "Friend, sleep is really important to weight loss, and your late-nite visit is a tad inconvenient because it is a work night and I have a big presentation in the morning, so maybe you are being a bit inconsiderate of my needs". In any case, you did well to recover from the wine and cheese appetizer by redeeming yourself with lentil soup and salad. I read Lucybell33's comment, and I am really starting to believe that the metabolism does need the odd splurge day to get out of starvation mode, because that is the only logical explanation why I am losing weight with all of my cheating. Give yourself a pat on the back for being a good friend and for counting your points and posting them online! Planning ahead is the key and your milk purchace and subway plan sound great!
