To Fellow FatSecret'rs,

I am on the tail-end of finally completing my BS, Telecom Mgmt, with only two ACCTG classes to complete, then I am planning to really get back into shape. Ironically, for me, it really isn't the weight, but more a toning issue. I haven't done anything really physically consistent for the past five years, and have noticed my body deteriorating over time.

When I started on this fantastic site (www.fatsecret.com), I was being pressured to get my diabetes under better control and work on my eating habits, so here I am and I find myself telling others how great this site is.

Prior to embarking on my new diabetes, diet, and weight control mission, I was playing adult recreational ice hockey 2-3 times per week. This is a sport that will definitely keep one fit. Just for kicks, I would conduct a pre/post-game weigh in with typical readings of 195 lbs / 190 lbs, which is a 5 lb loss per 60 minute game, of which I was on the ice a full 10-15 minutes of game time.

I am, 5' 9”, medium build, and have a goal to get down to 190 lbs, which will give a variable weight spread between 190-195 lbs, which works for me. Also, when I started this program, my waist size was 38, and know it is 36, with my goal of 34 @ 190 lbs.

I also, started a roller blade group @ work, where we blade around the business park perimeter (1.2 miles) 2-3 times, which is equivalent of 3.6 miles in less than 30 minutes. I have had people say that it is really a workout compared to just walking. They actually live for the days we go blading.

My suggestion, is to continue to eat properly and integrate some form of exercise that will increase your heart rate, which will help you burn calories.

Once, I am done with my studies, I plan to start playing adult recreational ice hockey again for the fun of it, and of course the great healthy side effects of keeping my body and mind in great shape as I climb the age ladder in life.
