Coasting along...

So last night I did go out as planned and had a light dinner (Mujadara pocket with lentils and rice). And had 4 drinks instead of the 2 I'd planned on (1 gl. wine and 3 pints beer). Was out until 3 am, so didn't wake up early and had to miss my morning workout. Am about to go now (after a light dinner). Breakfast was good and light, but lunch ended up being this falafel sandwitch (raved as the best in town, but I didn't really think much of it), but it ended up being points-expensive (probably 10-15 pts!). Which means I must have used up my allowable points in those two meals, thus, I've made dinner to be only a big all-veggies salad with fat free dressing...hopefully that'll make it within my point-range. Surprisingly, my weight was slightly down this morning, despite the drinking from last night.

Meals from today:
Breakfast: 1 whole wheat pita with grilled veggies/bean curd (4)
and 1 veggie pattie (2)

Lunch:
1 falafel sandwitch (pita with 6 small-ish falafels,
hummus and lettuce and tomato) (10-15 pts)
1 coffee with cream (1)
Dinner: 1 big salad (lettuce, yellow pepper, cucumber, mushroom, tomato, fat free ranch, 6-7 croutons, and 2-3 walnut halves) (2)

Total points: 24 (at most)

Splurges can still be within your allowable range when you plan for them. Just be "good" for the rest of the week and you should be fine.

I’m a diet book junkie, and your journal reminded me of an anedote by Dr. Andrew Weil (you may have seen him on t.v., he looks like Santa Claus) in Eating Well for Optimum Health (2000). He was travelling (Germany maybe? I don’t remember where) and the people he was staying with were enjoying a traditional breakfast of fatty sauceges and beer!! He is a lacto-pesco vegetarian, but he took a “When in Rome” approach and noted that the sense of community, joy, and generosity of these people was very supportive of good mental health and thus lower blood pressure and in a strange way conducive to heart health. So enjoy your friends and your Friday night drinks, because in a roundabout way it is good for you in moderation. You have certainly been working hard lately. I hope your Saturday night out was fun too!
